They also recorded some truly dreadful cover versions - Jambalaya and Desperado.
Calling Occupants of Interplanetery Craft was the lowest point - why cover a crap song and make it sound even more crap?? Leave that to Shaking Stevens.

True, it was #1 in Ireland. According to Wikipedia the Carpenters used “a crew of 160 musicians” when recording it!!!Yea but that "crap" song was a massive hit.
