Got into work and was told everybody who could work from home would be doing so for the next two weeks.
But we haven't got enough laptops so had to take desktop and two monitors home and I'll be using my own mobile as the company didn't have any spares.
However, no issue with nipping off early for the trip to Sheffield, and no wasting 100 minutes a day commuting.

I’ve been fortunate to be able to primarily work from home for a few years now and it has many advantages, especially now.

Unfortunately for many, that will just not be an option, as tolerating a two week (or more) layoff financially is not possible. This is one of the main challenges to slowing transmission and there simply is not an easy solution.

Was talking specifically about rentokill, airlines down rentokill up was so obvious I wish I had 10 grand lying around, could have spent some time at home in isolation
There will be plenty that made money off it, there always are. Some directly off the services my company offers, unfortunately. That is the aspect of my work that I most struggle with, if I am honest.

Go with the drug dealer excuse if your company weren’t doing it someone else would.

If this escalates then austerity will really bite them on the arse - far too few staff, far too few beds, too few lines/ people on the 111 line and a total lack of depth in resources thanks to cuts. Part of the plan its suggested is to get retired doctors and nurses to muck in....yeah right - retired - right in the demographic of those most at risk from this virus and who has the knowledge to know the danger won't be running into disease ridden hospitals any time soon.
There has been a complete lack of urgency from Govt - allegedly waiting for Johnson to finish a fucking book - from the delays in getting Brits away from Costa Adeje to drawing up an action plan. I suspect Hancock had some stuff prepared as he has been the sock puppet sent out to face ridicule in news rooms and it would be based on presumably some expert advice. No doubt he was told to shut up and sit down whilst Cummings can run the show ( presumably a rehash of a Hancock plan that Johnson can claim is his idea.)

I for one can’t believe any govt didn’t plan for a worldwide pandemic that they didn’t know was going to happen, idiots. Next time I go to a hospital I want to see many doctors and nurses playing solitaire or idling their time away on uniform dating sites.

I’ll say again, caring and taking action is not a binary state/action — you can care and act on this whilst also caring and acting to help to alleviate starvation, spread of other diseases, economic hardship/subjugation, and so on. It’s fine to remind people that there are other people in the world suffering, but one instance of suffering is not a valid reason to disparage interest or action related to other sources of potential suffering. Especially as what we do ourselves in this instance could reduce potential suffering elsewhere.

I agree with you.
But my post was ment for the hysteria that this new flu has brought foreward. As was the Mexican flu a while back. It’s grazy the attention it’s getting compared to what really matters. Any flu is killing people.
But of course I understand the impact. It’s getting close to us and therefore we need to convince ourselves to take whatever measures are needed and more.

Completely agree the hysteria is destructive — I just think many of us are arguing complacency is, too.

We need to find the reasonable in-between that you hint at: staying calm, focusing on the common guidance from an array of reputable scientists and health officials, taking reasonable precautions, and remembering our humanity is the same as everyone else’s.

I know most of us also care about the suffering you point toward — as I said, it’s perfectly valid to bring it up — and many have tried to take action to alleviate what they can, as they can.

This is just something else we can collectively help to mitigate.

It will be very interesting to see how the FA, PL, EFL, and UEFA handle the matches remaining in the various competitions. I am not sure this plan would be workable should players or club staff contract the virus (even though, based on current evidence, most would more than likely not be at risk for a severe case, they could spread it to others that could then transmit to people who are at higher risk).

It’s quite telling that this is their “worst case” scenario, though, not surprising.

Although it wouldn’t be to our advantage if the situation escalates then I think the league should be played behind closed doors and all cup competitions should be scrapped.

Its called planning for the worst case scenario - not the slash and burn exercise that they have been undertaking these last 10 years. Their own worst case scenario see''s a potential 80% infection rate for the UK. I am hope your flippant comment provides the immunity you may well need.

You can't just bring back retired medical staff, they have to have their knowledge reviewed and skills updated, that all takes time and why would they want to go back to a stressful job, file under the same lip service on NHS staffing and 40 new hospitals

You want policy forever to be based on possible Armageddon around the corner at any given time, give the political point scoring a day off.
