Maybe years and years of bullshit coming from the top has led to people bring distrustful of the government.
That’s what happens you see when the evidence piles up that the country has been misled over and over again over many different issues. Some small, some big, but all when added together mean that when the serious shit hits the fan, when the people genuinely need somebody to look up to to help them through the worst of times they feel they can’t believe the advice being given.
You keep banging on about us having the best this and best that in terms of scientists won’t change things for those people terrified of what the future holds.
Looking from afar one can only hope that the U.K. have taken the correct measures and the rest of the world are wrong. You’ll have to forgive me though for being a little worried that this isn’t the case and those who are meant to protect their citizens have fucked up - again.
We have to realise that the government has other compulsions than solely the health of the population. They will have one eye on the effect on the economy etc. They will of course dress it up to sound like our welfare is the priority but I think they will be looking at it in a more holistic way, which may or may not be the right thing for the country as a whole in the long run but in the short term it may be devastating to the population.

I kept mine off from last week.

I was told I was overreacting and causing unnecessary panic by the headteacher and the best place for my daughter was school.

She told me absence would go down as unauthorised.

I doubt any fines will be handed out at the end of all this for any parent who kept kids off school

I don't have kids but I'd have marched into the headteacher's office and stuck one on the ****

If anything then the rate of spread amongst untested patients would be greater, since the proportion of those tested becomes smaller and smaller as the large numbers of infected, untested people goes up.

But actually, I think the rate of increase thus far is common across all stats; tested, untested, seriously ill, dead. For that not to be true then there would have to be a shift over time in the proportions of people falling ill and dying, and whereas that could occur over many weeks, there's no evidence to suggest it's occuring now.

Right now, I summise, numbers of dead (d) equates to n1 infected people we know about (tested) and n2 infected people we don't know about. To date we've seen the same rate of rise in d and n1, so logical to assume same rate of rise in d2 as well.

I think the point was more that, using us for an example. were testing 1.5k a day, then that increased to 10k a day overnight. that means a lot more will be found in a short period of time skewing the doubling time.

so for now im trying to avoid those rates a bit and being optimistic using the "official" figures.

however when you look at it at a per country level the increases are all very similar at the 2/3 day rate.

I think we're past caring about fines.
Priority is to do what we can to protect our kids.

Just some perspective with regards to those still going on about football, champions, league places, relegation etc...

I work for one of the biggest manufacturers of Blood Glucose Monitoring test strips in the world, serving millions of diabetic patients worldwide. This weekend we were told that all office staff, with the capability to work from home should do so. Staff in operations/manufacturing are to continue heading into work to make product to serve patients. If the shit really hits the fan over here and manufacturing has to shut down, at some point in the future, when stock is depleted, millions of diabetics around the world are not going to be able to test themselves. Just for a second imagine the knock-on impact of this. My company is just one of thousands in the healthcare industry across the globe in a similar situation.

Those that don't think that coronavirus has that big of an impact, or that its only a small percentage of elderly people, with underlying health issues will be affected, need to wake up. It is much, much bigger than that. Only small percentages may die from coronavirus itself but many millions more will be seriously impacted across all walks of life. The relatively small number of deaths from coronavirus will be reported daily, what isn't being reported is the many more deaths from other illnesses, that can be directly attributed back to the impact of coronavirus.

Give Liverpool the title, dont give them the title. Relegate the bottom three teams as it currently stands, dont relegate them. Promote Leeds, dont promote Leeds. It means NOTHING, at this moment in time football is NOTHING.

Let's not forget in all this that in the background Bo Jo has promised that Brexit will happen, no matter what, at the end of this year. So the economy will be pretty high on his agenda and will, undoubtedly, colour his attitude.

Arrrgh shite man. I been avoiding the news as much as possible. Lucky I got a pint in Friday!! Thanks for info!

Are you locking yourself away mate?

I've been off for the past five weeks with a fucked up shoulder and was supposed to go back today. The general contractor has said don't come in.
We'll see how it goes. If I go back next week, I will be inside an empty house doing trim on my own.
Definitely not going away at the beginning of April now. I'm more concerned about my Mum tbh mate.

You would hope medical supply chains would be protected from a lockdown. and suitable protection supplied to staff.
