I presume you're talking about Spain? As for Italy, I guess we'll be on a steeper curve than them no matter where the curve starts if we're not already there.

Seriously, no we're not.
We're highlighting all the non hospital deaths a week later via the ONS too.
As far as I can see, only France has really started to do the catch up as well.
When we get the Retrospectoscopes out at the end of the 2nd quarter then we'll be able to see the actual truth of it

Posted earlier but only 140 are yesterdays, the rest mainly from 1st April until 7th , but 56 from mid to end of March too. Then again doesn’t include care homes etc. Which is why I bang on about not following daily death numbers.

What is wrong with people wanting to follow the death rate? It is shocking,they are real people,we want to se a lower number,desperately

Big shout for Bluebell Nursing Home in Salford for me tonight.
It's my mum's birthday today (74) and although we were estranged for many years because of her mental illness from being a young mum, we have built bridges in the last 4 years.
She didn't know it was her birthday but when she came to the phone and I wished her happy birthday she then turned round and told the care staff. They then proceeded to sing happy birthday to her, and one of the staff then came back on the phone to say my mum's beam of a smile had been the best thing they had seen all day.
Fantastic staff.

Unless it’s a China style your doors are getting welded shut lockdown, it is not going to go away. It isn’t going to in Spain, Italy or America. Until there is a cure or vaccine the best we can do is not overwhelm the NHS. All my opinion of course but I can’t see how we can realistically completely get rid of it, unless it behaves like other viruses and dies off in summer, where ironically it’s everyone being outside that would kill it.

We’ve been warned many times though about comparing daily death figures. We know today we have added in figures form as far back as mid March, we know France have had huge spikes doing the same as far as I know Spain haven’t yet done that. We won’t know the true figures for total deaths in any country until long after only then can we compare them.
The only thing we do know for certain are the numbers in critical care and if we keep our numbers there below Spain there is no reason to think when we look back we’ll have vastly more deaths. At the moment despite not having the same lock down as Spain we seem to be keeping infection and critical care numbers below theirs, if we weren’t the government would probably harden the current restrictions.

Warned by the government, and the ones trying to justify their decisions? Of course they'll stand by them! Do you have the numbers for critical care cases in both countries? Would be good to see them. It's worth considering that ours won't slow anywhere near as much as theirs - why would they given the nature of the lockdown?

Because many keep hearing how many deaths “we’ve had in a day” is so “bleak” and comparing it to Italy when our figures aren’t based on deaths in a 24 hour period and thus can’t (and shouldn’t) be compared directly.

It’s like reporting how many points City have recorded after a win and bemoaning the fact the Liverpool scored more points “today” when collating Liverpool’s points over a three week period.

I know they are not strictly a day by day total but i doubt anyones is,however they are reported the number is going up and is going to keep going up,we are all feeling this in our own way i guess

Can you actually confirm though that Italy aren't doing the same thing? Isn't it logical to just presume everyone is backlogging often due to the insane nature of what every country is going through? Why are they going to be doing any differently to us?

I also don't get how anyone can be annoyed at anyone for being upset at hearing about 900 deaths. It's not exactly not bleak is it ffs? Unless you think its totally fine?
