i cant get my head around why pandemics happen in waves? and why is this one predited to last 6/8 weeks? i have read that quite a few times now?
Could be due to human behaviour. We behave in a way that causes quick spread then change our behaviour which reduces the spread. The wave is generated by that change rather than the virus. Early on in the first lockdown wasn't there some Israeli guy predicting 6/8 week waves regardless of behaviour change though?

Anyone looking at a single day's numbers is fooling themselves, 7 day average is the best figure on all of it, as it always includes both weekend days, but it always runs 4 days behind "today".
Personally I have forgotten about daily, weekly and monthly scores as there’s nothing at all I can do to change it.
I worry about those I love and those I know. Hopefully everyone ensures they are as safe as can be and then ‘what will be will be’.
Life can be great, but it’s how we deal with shit that is important.
Far too many people don’t understand their own responsibilities in all of this and they should stop interfering with other people’s way of dealing with it.

Hospital data finally. Two days updated:

England up 13, 058 to 13, 468 and today to 13, 565. Last Tuesday there were 11, 306.

Ventilators up 1194 to 1198 and today to 1228. Last Tuesday there were 1010.

Regionally

London Patients 1260 - 1349 - 1403 - was 1084 last Tuesday. Ventilators 214 - 209 - 218 - was 179 last Tuesday.

Midlands Patients 2908 - 2995 - 3039 - was 2364 last Tuesday. Ventilators 272 - 271 - 280 - was 223 last Tuesday.

Yorks/NE Patients 3260 - 3400 - 3397. - was 2882 last Tuesday. Ventilators 229 - 236 - 249 - was 198 last Tuesday.

And North West Patients 2959 - 3059 - 3013. Was 2781 last Tuesday.

So the NW has gone above 3000 patients for the first time in the pandemic but the Midlands has caught up and overtaken the NW in the week and NW has the third fewest patients in after long being far ahead of the rest

The pandemic is moving.

Ventilators in the NW FELL over these days 259 - 270 - 258. Last Tuesday it was 229. NW again was miles ahead of everyone in these numbers too but Midlands have caught and overtaken and Yorks/NE is close to following and even London has escalated from a long long way behind the NW to a realistic chance of overtaking this week also.

I totally agree, I still watch the numbers, but as you say the only thing we can do is look after number 1, and that's how we are dealing with it. It's hard to advise our younger family though, some want to just get on with it, and I can't blame them, others want to arrange "christmas" which I generally don't care much about other than meeting close family, but we can't plan for that right now, other than staying at home doing f**k all, with anyone.

I've got a cousin who's got a really serious health issue (chemo cancelled several times), his sister has had it, and been pretty ill (in the middle of moving house too), elderly parents who are doing their best to avoid it.

We had a day out locally today (NT property), walked about 5 miles, weather ok, but pretty grey, but it was good to be "out", and not thinking about the pandemic, plenty of visitors where we went, but everyone looking out for themselves, and the roads pretty quiet apart from school times.

Trying to keep to having some life, but being very careful out and about.

As always you have a sensible view point, but we all see things differently.
I’ve read your posts about the NT and seeing the sights near you which is brilliant. We go out locally and fortunately we live in the countryside.
Today is my birthday.
It’s against the law to see my children and grandchildren to celebrate which, IMO, is criminal.
I’ve not been out at all today as I only want to see my family and the rest can go swing.
We will meet up at Christmas, but we are all making plans to isolate from the world for at least a week before to ensure our safety. And for those on here who think we should all be alone, because the government can dictate it, can go and fuck off.
My resilience comes from seeing my kids grow and develop.

Happy birthday mate.

Happy birthday, hope you've had a few glasses of wine together.

Yep, and no issue with that, I don't think we differ much, I'm far from mine, but we've seen them when we were allowed, and now its really to far from both unfortunately.

We're in the countryside really (might live in a small town, but it's minutes to drive) and we have embraced it this year, and been places we'd never have gone, it's amazing what is close to you, that you never see.

I'm not planning christmas, because I don't want to be disappointed, but we do kind of have a plan depending what regulations are at the time.

We are on holiday this week, and hoped to go somewhere, but obviously couldn't, but we had a day out today, and are meeting my missus best friend on Friday (outdoors), she's not seen her for 3 or 4 months, and again all thanks to the NT membership, and keeping their gardens and estates open.

Happy birthday mate, mine was last Saturday, I live with my son so that was easy enough, my mum wanted me to visit so I did, like you take as many precautions as possible, and then saw my girlfriend. That’s it, if some don’t like that, tough. I’m abiding by everything they say I must do except see one other extra person. If I worked with them no one would bat an eyelid.

If you see 1 other person several times a day, I don't think it breaks any rules, so nobody should bat an eyelid.

Cheers P.
I think, as long as you are sensible and take the right precautions, you have a good chance of being ok.
It’s been proven that the risk outdoors is incredibly low, one of the reasons I packed in work. You and the Mrs should be fine in the open meeting with friends, as long as there’s no hugging!
We discussed Christmas on Saturday and everyone agrees with the plan. Even though the ‘kids’ are over thirty they have always had Christmas at home. We are going to smoke a turkey and do a trad turkey.
Fortunately six of us live within 600m and between us we have enough space to isolate for seven days with two extra adults from Manchester added at one of the houses.

Hope you had a good birthday, but it sounds like you did.
IMO to many people are rigid in what we should all do.
I take loads of precautions, and have instilled it into the rest of them. We all do our best to be safe so we can continue to meet as a family. They’ll be some sad **** that thinks that’s wrong, and they’re entitled to their opinion.
Family is more important than the Government.

Pfizer CEO today at some conference. "We are very close to submitting for an emergency use authorization".
