Today btw 235, 133 pillar 1 & 2 tests in England for 17, 189 to complete the wk to wk sequence above

Total UK cases today down again to 19, 609. Lowest number since 2 November.

Is anyone else fed up of this relentless pursuit of an 'answer' from the Gov. about the amount of people being tested as opposed to the testing capacity? I've seen people raging that counting a nasal and throat swab (processed separately) as 2 tests for the purpose of saying we hit our target of 200k tests per day is wrong? Am I alone in feeling the opposite?
Capacity is clearly a more important indicator than # of people tested. Ideally you'd only test each person once but to know that the capacity is there to cover re-tests etc. is best case, no?

Admittedly I was watching Piers Morgan bash Alok Sharma this morning.
I refuse to watch anything with Morgan in it and it really helps.

Did we EVER find out where that 33.000 cases number came from last week as it is way at odds with all the data around it and seems very strange on its own given the way cases before and after were all much lower and numbers seem to be steadily dropping.

Thank you - but yes, I have been noting in recent days as cases fell day to day there was a HUGE drop in pillar 1 & 2 tests twice.

I posted the exact figures here last night but it was way over 100,000 difference across several days.

I noted then that I was surprised no journalists had spotted that and asked the question - are cases really falling or just the testing being diverted to these other kinds of tests?

Of course, these are presumably not pillar 1 or 2 tests (???) so not being factored into the daily data and the test numbers cited might in that sense be misleading in the opposite direction.
There are plenty of questions that should have been asked by journalists that haven't been over the past few months

he does put the politicians very much on the spot and doesn't let them get away with dodging answers, i think he's a bellend in other ways - but his interview technique at times is quite refreshing.

I agree. I never was a journalist as such but cannot imagine not asking these kinds of questions of government as I used to do. Happily not with anything so important as this.

Despite the fall in cases again the regional total shows a rise for the NW sadly. Though not alone. Yorks And NE too.

London 2023 - down slightly from 2102

Midlands 2002 - down from 2639.

North East 1568 - up from 1276.

Yorkshire 2907 - up from 2540.

Unfortunately NW has the biggest rise and the highest numbers nationally again today

to 3120 from 2446.

I remember hearing a doctor talk on Radio 4 a couple of years ago and descried just how awful having diesel/petrol fumes on the roads are for peoples respiratory health (and how may die each year from the effects of this).
Incredible stats...which I'll dig out.

My asthma is kicking up at the moment and likely since taking up running again (partly the actual exertion but also running in the urban environment).

I do wonder how many of these (us?) people have been affected by CV19 and if this is linked to the ramping up of green energy which has been announced today? Must give us a head start on future respiratory viruses.
The one thing we're doing constantly is breathing in and out....all day, all night.

Morgan is a fat tosser.

He has used the pandemic purely for his own gains to try and improve his tarnished profile. He thinks he is some guardian angel with "trying to hold the govt to account" and calling for lockdowns. He will always be remembered for being a horrid lying, phone hacking c*nt.

GM highlights, Everyone up apart from Stockport which scored sub 100 for first time in a while. Trafford did too again but slightly up on yesterday. The other sub 100 borough from yesterday had a bigger rise. But none of the rises were by a lot and only Manchester topped 200 again.

The total for GM was 1508 - up from 1211 yesterday but otherwise one of the lowest in weeks.

And the GM % of the NW fell slightly to 48%.
