COVID-19 — Coronavirus

Lockdown is associated with punishment, not the treating a virus. The reaction will be viewed in the as a catastrophic mistake and abuse of power. This is a test as to how gullible and feeble the general public is and how much they simply nod their heads and no their place.

I'm absolutely perplexed at how a country that was well in the know, and largely untouched by Covid-19 whilst other countries were in lockdown impacted by Covid-19 are now the second worst affected country in the world. The true estimate is mentioned at 40,000 including care homes deaths.

What amazes me further is that many people are hailing Bojo and his government for their 'heroic' efforts. The same government that refused to take scientific advice into account for weeks and lockdown, and kept travel to and fro the country open.

If my memory serves me correctly, there were around 360 hospital deaths by 23 March. The day of the lockdown. I think Greece and and Slovenia locked down after just a handful of deaths. It's fair to say, we were slow to react compared to some other countries.

Maybe the data isn't that good then!

Edit - must be 15% of that area not the whole country.

Interesting about the chances of infecting someone in the same house is low. I know of 2 families where 1 of them have had it and the other didn't despite living and sleeping together.

Same for me I tested positive, wife was tested same day negative and she was tested 5 days later negative again, despite sharing a bed with me throughout.

Let's be honest, if our civil servants and health officials were truely excellent they'd be working for a private company. There is ALWAYS at least a moderate level of incompetence in government.
I said when this began that very few ministers are qualified for the job they do,so it was fair to give them a lot of leeway, now we are further down the line and the old political tricks are in play i am much less inclined to trust them, also SAGE papers released seem to say they were not just blindly following the science as they said they were,u
did say as well these are government decisions being made not science ones, they were there to advise and give options but they would not be making the decisions

I think the ONS data that was subsequently released showed we actually had over 800 (all settings) deaths at the time of 'lockdown'. So one of the worst hit countries in the world before 'lockdown' and even then, we still had open borders and mass gatherings on flights.

Which bit? 15% tested had it, 22% didn't show symptoms and 0.36% infected died. That's what it says.
In one small community where the age profile is not defined. Without that it’s fairly meaningless because we don’t know the ages of those infected and whether they’re representative of the whole country.

it has saved your live an d your loved ones you idiot

The biggest mistakes our government has made are:
1. Not locking down a week earlier (hindsight is strong here as there were very few deaths at the time).
2. Not quaranteening all travelers for two weeks who have come from any country with more than 10 cases. Many people were complaining at the time on here. It was just common sense to be honest - and yet air travellers can still just wander in.
3. Discharging hospital patients to care homes without testing them first. Just what fucking planet were they on to do this?

Just finished reading two reports. One from Arizona where scientists have found one single mutation of the virus which matches how SARS mutated in its middle and later stages before eventually dying out (good news, but now the bad. The second report suggesting the dominant strain now seen in most of Europe and the East Coast of the US is a mutation itself from what was originally in Wuhan and the west coast of the US. This report suggests that it might be more difficult to create a vaccine and that its more infectious than initially thought.
