It's been reported government advice to avoid public transport could be scrapped in a bid to encourage Brits to leave their homes and spend money.

But Sir Patrick told a committee of MPs that home working was an effective method of keeping people distanced from each other.

He said: "We’re still at a time when distancing measures are important. It remains a perfectly good option, it’s easy to do.

"I can see absolutely no reason to change it

GM scoreboard reflects this improvement

Bolton 7 (up from 5, 96 over the last two weeks of the fuller data and 41 in the past week)

Bury 4 (highest in 10 days, 30 in the past two weeks, 17 in the past week)

Manchester 4 (lowest since the new added data, 152 in the past two weeks, 72 in the past week)

Oldham 4 (up from 2, 79 in the past two weeks but only 27 in the past week)

Rochdale 11 (up again and still our big problem locally, 150 in two weeks and 70 of those in the past week)

Salford 3 (same as yesterday, 54 in past two weeks but 32 in the past week)

Stockport 2 (up from 1. 28 over the past two weeks and lowest in GM, 10 in the last week - less than Rochdale just today).

Tameside 1 (up from 0, 41 in the past two weeks and 17 of these in the past week)

Wigan 3 (up from 0, 32 in past two weeks and 16 of those in the past week)

Beyond GM at risk of lockdown Bradford added 33, slightly down on 38 & 36 in past 2 days.

Burnley & Pendle the other problem area added 8, down from 13.

As for Leicester in lockdown it registered 43 slightly up on 31 and 541 in past 2 days but to be almost exactly where they were 13 days ago soon after lockdown - though they were much higher before lockdown started).

Data from Beta update : Latest daily UK hospital admissions still the July 9 figure of 179 (down from 201 the day before).

But really good news from the latest total UK number currently in hospital.

After the slight rises in recent days it has started going down again with a drop in one day of 125 to reach 1865.

At the peak there 19,872 in hospital in early April (so under 10% now).

No idea when the number was last this low as data only starts on 27 March when there were already 7044 in UK hospitals with Covid

I sadly have to call it a day as its still a struggle getting on here with getting kicked off.

And to leave on a downer. The numbers in ICU ventilator beds - after the large drop yesterday - has risen again by 8 to 153.

Beta has also added the days in between (not there yesterday) and this shows the pattern over the past week of numbers in UK ICU beds:

9 Jul (188), 10 Jul (191), 11 Jul (168) 12 Jul (159) 13 Jul (162) 14 Jul (145) 15 Jul (153)

So well down in a week and it has been going up and down, but something to keep an eye on given the rapid decline in UK deaths which will mosty come from the sickest patients many likely to be in these numbers.

It’s obvious the best way to combat this is stay at home, lock yourself in the room and see no one.

but it’s just not feasible- the economy has to boost otherwise the consequences on people’s livelihoods are unimaginable

That's wonderful news! Wonder what changed? Lower viral loads? More one on one treatment time? Therapeutics? Also, what's the source of that stat please?
Heavy dose use of Heperin (anti calagulant), Polatasium and Vitamin D infusions and blood plasma transfusions (in the last week of May).
Remdesivir too on patients who were declining towards requiriing ventilation. Since then it has improved further with the anti-inflamatody steroid they had kicking aound in the drugs cupboard which turns out to be a wonder drug (another 10% inprovement).
Monoclonal antibodies is the next one which will be much better than plasma.

What he is saying is work from home if you can still,i dare say an awful lot of companies will look on this as a chance to downsize the premises,if they have found it hasn't affected business,if you work in an office and are not face to face with the public there is no need to go in,we have just have just been to CAS over zoom or whatever it is called, outside of office jobs you have a reasonable point

Following the science went out of the window a while ago,the scientist have their eyes on stopping a second wave ,the gov on starting the economy

Nobody is bothering wearing masks, everyone I listen too says why didn't we wear them back through the height of this wave, wearing them now makes no sense to a lot of people

Men can get their haircut, beards shaved ,eyebrows trimmed but the beauty industry are only allowed to do hair and nails, they are regulated on hygiene and wore PPE before covid but they are hamstrung and can't get their staff into work ,what is the difference between a man getting groomed and a women? Women are lower risk than me to die from covid,it makes no sense

Pubs, football, tattoo shops ,gyms, male grooming, this is a very man orientated lifting of lockdown

Ok, but my Office area of London (Holborn) is a ghost town and has been for a good few months because we’re all working from home -
Normally if everyone’s in the office , come lunch time and after hours all the shops are extremely busy and all the pubs are packed.
Not to mention the cost of travel to London.

it’s great that we can all work from home but it is decimating the economy of these areas.

This is a shit situation but it is a pandemic and not everyone's business is going to survive,i had my own business that I had to give up after my accident so I feel their pain

Packed pubs and trains make me nervous but I I understand that we have to get into our new normal
