Its not ADVISED

If you live in the affected local area, you must not meet or host people you do not live with in private homes or gardens unless they are in your support bubble. In addition to these restrictions, we advise that you should not:

  • socialise with people you do not live with, unless they’re in your support bubble, in any public venue. This applies to inside and outside of the affected areas. Examples of public venues include pubs, restaurants, cafes, shops, places of worship, community centres, leisure and entertainment venues, or visitor attractions and parks
True as far as i know. Loads of places in Penwortham where i live that clearly advertise mixed groups up to 6 is totally fine under the new rules.

cheers both, that's how i understood it, advised against but not unlawful. ta

I'm in Chorley and the councils in Lancashire and Lancashire Country Council have been ABYSMAL at letting people know about any of this. They need to leaflet households ASAP because not everyone is watching the news 24/7.

It seems to depend on the venue. My son had a table booked in a pub with 5 of his mates on Saturday night. No questions asked. I had a table booked for Sunday lunch yesterday for 4. Got a call from the restaurant Saturday to say if we weren’t one household we couldn’t come. My sister took my elderly parents, in their 80s to lunch last week. They were asked for evidence of their address, to prove they were one household, which they hadn’t all got, and asked to sit on separate tables. No logic at all.
I think thats exactly the way they wanted it. Keeps restaurants and pubs relatively busy whilst at the same time being able to say 'we told you so'.

This isn't true. Lancashire County Council currently say that you cannot meet people inside or outside in gardens or private homes (nothing about pubs). https://www.lancashire.gov.uk/coronavirus-updates/coronavirus-restrictions-in-lancashire/

But then read this from the governments website

I wonder if the 'we advise' is the grey area. Advising makes it sound like there is a choice to be made.

no, my question was regarding pubs, public parks etc, not homes and gardens (which is now illegal). As far as i am aware, the former is advised against but not illegal (in Lancs)

Sorry edited my post when I read the councils site more, they do indeed say they urge people not to socialise in pubs so yes it's legal but whether you should or not is another matter.

It is indeed advised against but no-one has made that clear hence why there is clearly so much confusion.

My neighbours had loads of people round yesterday and I actually think its because they don't know that the rules exist let alone what they mean.

it took a couple of us a little while to find out the rules and regs, legalities etc. Not sure it should be that way.

Think of the people who don't have access to internet (or don't use it much) or those who don't watch the news (most people).

My gran lives in sheltered housing and she keeps asking us when we are visiting next and we keep having to remind her that we can't at the minute.

It only takes someone in there to have visitors they shouldn't who has the virus and it will spread in there like wildfire, that is the impact that misunderstanding could have.

Supermarkets have confirmed sharp increase in demand for pasta and toilet paper.

The general public really are morons. We are not in any form of "lockdown", you just can't go for a pint with your mates or host family. What has that got to do with pasta and shit roll?
