bluejon I would appreciate your thoughts on New York. Up until a few weeks ago their outbreak mirrored the UK closely. And they have continued still like we were doing alongside of them up until very recently with deaths around 10 a day at most (usually less) and cases in the hundreds.

They have been able to avoid any hint of a second wave as we appeared to be up until late August.

What is the reason they are still keeping this suppressed as we were with them up to then but we now seem to have gone ahead of them? Though not by much given population level differences.

But the curves and patterns of their wave mirror ours very well until these past 4 weeks. I am baffled as to why they seem to have diverged. Is that an illusion? Or what did they do that we did not - or vice versa?
I haven't been following what's been going on in New York so I can't answer that question about them. As for the second wave bit, as I've said, I don't consider what is happening right now a second wave, certainly not one worth shutting down the country for. The situation with the students at the moment for example is beyond a joke.

Because I have compared what the imperial model predicted, observed what has happened, and they don't match. And for what it's worth there are a significant number of 'eminent scientists' saying exactly the same as myself, I am certainly not alone in this. The imperial model is what the entire western world based its lockdown upon and it's utter bullshit. As i've said before though, Neil Ferguson, the guy who produced it, has previous with getting predictions very very wrong. The panic about BSE? That was him. Bird flu? Again, mr predicty bollocks. He's not very good at this.
The thing that speaks volumes to me is that no one with a different view on how this should be looked at is getting any air time... the whole media have thrown their eggs into one basket and stuck to one set of scientific advisors yet we hear nothing from those on the opposite view point.

My son’s in NY.
Talked to him last night.
Restaurants only able to open outdoors. Just about to be allowed to open up to 25% capacity.
Schools reopened two days a week a couple of weeks ago.
Numbers just starting to rise again.
Radio 4 today said Brooklyn and Queens are treble the rate the rest of the city.

yep, seems these restrictions are relatively the same world wide, yet everyone seems to be in shock when our government makes similar decisions

Aren't most of the world a lot more relaxed than us with the rules? American States all run their own rules don't they and NY went really hard at first. So much so if you were out in manhattan without a good reason you got fined.

Absolutely. This mantra of 'following the science' for starters is absolute garbage (and that's not just been here, it's been everywhere). Pretty much any topic of research has differing viewpoints and controversies over what is 'right', especially when it comes to a brand new virus, but only one version of 'science' has been put forward. My concern is that when it does become obvious that 'the science' got it wrong, the public won't trust what is being said anymore (or even less than now). Some scientists got it wrong, others didn't. Our governments chose to only follow one course of action and not keep all options possible in their mind.

One where a few individuals have a lot to gain.
