i guess the problem with 'stories' like this is that they only serve to scare people - of course they're prepared, every hospital has been on high alert since March, why wouldnt they be in the new year? also, theyre busy every single winter. this isnt having a go at you, but this is such a non-story that only gets people's anxieties up. If they are insistent on posting non-stories, maybe a slightly different tack such as "hospitals wont let complacency in and will continue their hard work"

A friend was Head of A&E at Stepping Hill and they are busy throughout the year, not just in Winter.

Maybe the MUEN are reminding people to follow sage practices, at time when the the saviour of a vaccine is only weeks / months away. It’s very important that non Covid services are sustained.

This is the data from a few days ago too and it has only got better for the NW since these finalised figures for last weekend.

Notice only Rochdale in the top 40 from GM well down the list. And Oldham on page 2.

Since then Rochdale has fallen and last night was at a Pop Score of 228 not 262 - which would put it on page 2 out of the top 40. And Oldham the next highest on that list near the top of page 2 is now under 200 at 194 as of last night. So way down.

Everywhere in GM has fallen and Manchester itself has gone off the top part of page 1 on the list to a Pop score of 175 which would put it on page 3.

Here are the numbers for GMs ten boroughs as of last night if you want to compare them to that list above of the UK 'hotspots' last weekend. Lowest is best in Pop Scores remember.

Rochdale 228
Bury 222
Oldham 194
Bolton 189
Wigan 189
Manchester 175
Tameside 142
Salford 138
Stockport 122
Trafford 97

Much as I think these weeks in tier 3 will protect us from a huge spike over Christmas (there is bound to be some rise) these numbers as of now are simply not tier 3 numbers.

Only Bury at present really is having a problem getting lower but even that is down from 317 ten days ago. And 438 the week before that.

Stepping Hill has a specialist Prostate facility, my best mate (Blue as well) was diagnosed with the disease in Feb 2015 and as it had already spread to his pelvis the outlook wasn't good, fast forward to today and thankfully he's still with us. The hospital has been brilliant and got him through some real tough times, can't praise them enough.

Scotland data today:

41 deaths - sadly up week to week

966 cases

4.2 % positive

258 Greater Glasgow, 166 Lanarkshire, 117 Lothian

965 patients (down 11)

65 ventilated (down 4)

A little mixed but the hospital downward trend goes on and is clearly good news.

Scotland 3 wks v 2 wks v last wk v today:

Deaths // Cases // Patients // Ventilators

56d // 1357c // 1228p // 96v

32d // 1018c // 1234p // 88v

37d // 969c // 1099p // 80v

41d // 966c // 965p // 65v TODAY

This really shows the progress - though cases seem not to be falling further. An ongoing outbreak in Grampian is apparently a current issue where the positive percentage of testing is well above the just over 4% national average. I think they said 5.3% there.

However, both patients and ventilators down by between a quarter and a third in the 3 weeks is really positive news given we are heading INTO winter not out of it as during the first wave which inevitably complicates the ability to drive numbers down.
