Covid test for me in the morning after someone tested positive who was in the shop Friday
The over 80s should make a huge dent in numbers dying.no chance. Once the over 50s are done very few are dieing of it. We can get through the over 50s by spring.
The point is that current restrictions are expected* to result in prevalence doubling every 6 days. As that would be a catastrophe, tighter restrictions are needed.
The longer we wait to put on those restrictions, the more people will die. Much worse if the reality is at the bad end of what is projected, we may not be able to contain it at all, and vaccination will be overtaken by an out of control virus. In these circumstances, there is no benefit in waiting, and it's very clear urgent action is required.
*it's of course not certain that the early data on the new variant will pan out.
It was an outrage. Went there the previous year (and met Jeremy Kyle - very small, nasty man - looks like he hates everyone and everything; including himself)I can excuse some things early doors but that one was a shocker
He means the rest of the U.K. I assume and in such case rates aren’t doubling every 6 days.Tier 4 has only been in 2 days, plus the schools have closed.
How would any one have an idea of what effect it's going to have on transmission?
It's basically the same as the lockdown in April in Tier 4 at the moment.
There isn't really any further they can do than how it is in the South East at the moment is there?
While we might differ on political leanings I like your optimism and believe that the vaccines will make a huge difference and hope and pray this government deliver and come summer we can enjoy a beer .no chance. Once the over 50s are done very few are dieing of it. We can get through the over 50s by spring.

The point is that this variant has been found nationwide, not just in tier 4 areas.
The govt now expects the virus to get out of control everywhere else too, and rather than act, they're waiting to let it get out of control before acting.
I know this sounds mad, but that's literally what was said at the presser.
Whether tier 4 will be adequate once schools and uni return is another question.
All contingent on this variant actual being as bad as the early data suggests. It may not. In which case increasing restrictions can be reversed, and we'll have saved a few hundred lives.
Will be like 99.999% of the Christmases I've had in the past. If folk need the pub, restaurant and football on the TV to enjoy the solemnity of Our Lord's Birth, I'm guessing the art of conversation and familial conviviality isn't uppermost on their agenda.Xmas with no pubs , restaurants & football on the tele ... WTF
