I’ve just had a brain fart and bought a monthly train ticket.
I won’t be using it by then.
You buy it through the machine or the Trainline app? You might be able to get it back online.
Sadly I don't. I think we'll be doing our usual stiff upper lip and "keep calm and carry on" for far, far too long.Think we’ll see a step-change in approach in the next 48 hours.
I’m waiting for Boris to recommend it before I request it. I’m hoping it will come out of today’s emergency meeting but you never know. It might just be to sing something else, maybe happy birthday isn’t long enough.Spot on.
I mean how damaging would it be to simply change advice to "work from home if you can"???
This is what’s pissing me off the most. “It’s not going to affect us, less than 300 people have it”. Fucking winds me up. I’ve been working from home 2 days a week and will be today be asking my boss for it to be 5 days. It’s not going to go well as she is one of the “it’s just a bad flu” people.
I know it must be difficult if you don't get sick pay but in the current climate going into work with a fever is totally irresponsible (unless you know for sure it is caused by something other than CV). It pisses me off in normal times. I went to the dentist a few weeks ago and she clearly had a streaming cold, she kept her mask and gloves on throughout but guess what, 5 days later I had it.It’s the poor sods who will feel compelled to going in work as they haven’t got a choice even if they have it. I can do 60 percent of my job from home but nothing is being said yet, surely it would be prudent for the government to take us who can do that out of the equation of people roaming round spreading it.
Ha, didn’t even think about that when I got mine last week.I’ve just had a brain fart and bought a monthly train ticket.

Yeah, we have a situation where it depends on how knowledgeable your boss is as to what social distancing measures you can take, or how understanding your company’s CEO is. Fuck all that disparity, we need a clear strategy from the very top, a directive “this is what we are doing and we are doing it now.”This is why the government needs to step in now
Companies need to act now. A lot of companies are not set up for their staff to work from home and that’s going to be a big problem for them. I’m working with an organization in London who are already building and deploying over 500 laptops/tablets In the next week or two so people can work from home, but luckily they were in a position to deploy that level of kit. If they didn’t they are a critical public services who are still mainly on windows 7 terminal server devices and are currently in no position to let large portions of their staff work from home. A lot of work needs doing very quickly and at a huge expense, but it needs doing now.Exactly. And this is the basis of my argument I’ll be having at work today. We will be worse than Italy because we are doing fuck all. And the outcome of Boris’ meeting today will no doubt just be “work from home where possible”. We need more than that. How bad would it have to be for me to just put health first and work from home no matter what they allow me to do?
I think the unfortunate reality is that most businesses cannot just let everyone work from home, and neither can the government tell them to shut up shop. The country would grind to a halt and cease to function. People would starve to death.Companies need to act now. Yeah I think that’s the case too. With the lack of action in this country I think the best thing is to hope you catch it early. Karen knows what she’s doing. In 1 month the NHS will be on it’s knees. We need to spread the cases out over 4/5 months instead of our current fate of all at once.I think the unfortunate reality is that most businesses cannot just let everyone work from home, and neither can the government tell them to shut up shop. So whilst much of the UK is forced to carry on as normal, it is IMO therefore unavoidable that this is going to spread exponentially with the end result that most people in the UK are going to catch it. The only hope is that with the hand-washing, extra vigilance, people working from home where they can, going out less etc, we can slow down the inevitable.
Agreed, the country has to function and a large proportion of working peple just cannot work from home. However there are a lot though who can but just aren't logisitically set up to do it. They need to be the ones who act now and enable that where they can. Everyone talks about slowing the spread down, well reducing the people travelling and commuting where possible can only help.I think the unfortunate reality is that most businesses cannot just let everyone work from home, and neither can the government tell them to shut up shop. Agreed. I have to travel to Germany on business next week and I am considering two possible options. (1) refusing to go, and (2) driving there as sole occupant of my own car.Agreed, the country has to function and a large proportion of working peple just cannot work from home. What are things like in germany? Not heard much reporting on things there, but i imagine its similar to here. I work in London 3 days a week and staying at home this week and next, purely by chance but its getting to the point where i really dont fancy travelling now.Agreed. I think it seems to be "OK" - although the worst affected area is where I am supposed to be going. There's circa 1,000 cases in Germany right now, so probably 10,000 by middle of next week. What are things like in germany? Not heard much reporting on things there, but i imagine its similar to here.
