Kept kids off school.....

Had Headteacher on the phone, she has informed me it will go down as unauthorised absence.

Conversation was pretty much her spouting... the current public health England guidelines are children should be attending school any absence will be unauthorised.

Asked me to support the school and reconsider sending my child back to school.

school was a safer place then mixing with the general public (I pointed out child would be in home isolation or house arrest as the teacher called it)

keeping child off school would cause unnecessary panic amongst children and parents.

Now if pollution was reduced by 30% over the next few months and it directly correlated, I can't see COVID-19 killing anywhere near that number of people?

I suppose the positive you could take from that is that South Korea are way ahead numbers wise in terms of testing and that's where there is a low % of fatalities per cases. The hope will be that this turns out to be the case elsewhere when more testing is done. It could be that there's a significant number of people who have it or had it and just not realised or not been tested and recovered fine.

More seriously - if I've not taken my (small) private pension yet, and despite the drop in share prices, wouldn't reduced life expectancy mean a bigger annuity? (Legal and General reporting last week higher profits because people aren't living as long as expected - before the virus hit; why isn't that going to pensioners rather than shareholders?)

Do not, in any circumstances, purchase an annuity. No need since flexible drawdown was introduced in 2015. Annuity rates are circa 1.3% when they were over 5% in the early 2000’s.

Apply the same to covid, which given the speed it’s spreading could happen.this is using 3.4% case fatality rate given by the WHO last week, and 20% hospitalised figures given by the WHO.

From the news reports Saudi Arabia has decided to start a price war with Russia dropping the prices.

It's still a consequence of the coronavirus as demand for oil has gone through the floor and the Russians don't want to cut production so the Saudis are undercutting them.
At least we might save a tenner filling up the car which won't go very far in compensation for the tens of thousands lost to pensions and investments.
