COVID-19 — Coronavirus

Taking on board the Government experts advice on possible self isolating in 7-10 days if you even have cold symptoms, I'm not sure how that will work. Particularly as my employer (public service, Government department) have already said get into work unless you get a positive result for coronavirus.

That's mental. What is going on?

It does make you think that Johnson & Co may have got this right and they know something others countries don't - surely they can't be THIS wrong about such a serious matter?

They have announced anybody with a mild fever should start self isolating, even before any testing.

I think that makes sense at this stage , if not a little late.

Wouldn’t surprise me if the psychopath Cummings has persuaded him to let it play out as quickly as possible to get rid of a large number of oldies to reduce the social security and NHS bill.

I’m in Munich for the week for a workshop installation... does anybody know if I need to self-isolate on my return?

My trip was only approved on Friday by two very senior managers in our company because they considered it to be business critical.. they have banned all travel since...

My guess is that we’ll do something similar to Italy which will slow down its spread to an extent that the NHS will just be able to cope. I’m an optimist though and if I’m wrong the NHS could get totally overwhelmed.

That's basically what the spokesman on radio 4 said. Also explained the reasons for no action at the moment.

It will be on BBC sounds and was the show PM

There was a quote today which I only got the end of, when asked why stricter measures weren’t being done now when they know it’s coming anyhow they said it was down in part to public fatigue regarding the virus. I didn’t hear what they meant by that. They are pretty adamant they are taking advice that is medically sound from the people who should know.

That has cross my mind but more in mischief than a serious thought

More from our man in Italy just out - which on the face of it is good news - is like to see more stats on demographics of people in this recovery phase, there seems to be patchy information out there on that. This guys a marathon runner I get knackered going up the stairs!

While coronavirus deaths increase day after day in Italy, good news has emerged from the hospital in Pavia where Mattia, the Italian patient 1, has been treated since 21 February, is breathing autonomously and has been discharged from intensive care.

A medical taskforce worked for weeks, day and night, to keep him alive. The man, 38, was the first Italian patient infected with the virus. To many, his recovery has inspired optimism that the battle against Covid-19 can be won.

According to the patient’s wife, Mattia had met an Italian friend, a manager in Castiglione D’Adda who had returned from Wuhan, China, on 21 January. After some research, the manager, suspected of being patient zero, was tracked down but, incredibly, he tested negative for coronavirus.

After analysis, the suspect seems not to have had any recent infections. Antibodies are a sort of register that collects, in molecular form, traces of infections that our immune system is called to cope with. The search for the origin of the epidemic in the country seems to be an impossible mission.
Yeeess! Yes yes yes! Thanks mate I didn't know it yet (I probably should have)! It's so good to hear! Haha some days ago there was an interview to one of the docs in that taskforce saying that Mattia was a lot like a symbol of the fight against the virus for them and for lots of Italians, since he was the first patient and young and healthy, and seeing him die would have crushed the morale and hope of the whole hospital staff. So they had the single-minded thought that he absolutely couldn't die. And it's my town's hospital! I'm so happy. It seemed like he'd been intubated in ICU for a lifetime.

I'm not sure what, if any, updated advice we might get if this advice is recognised as needing to be listened to.
We have over 800 people coming through our doors every day, quite often from abroad.
Public servants are expected to be there on the front line though, so I don't expect any real changes.

Italy on lock down but flights have continued from the affected area to the uk without any checks .
I thoughtthat would be the first thing to do , stop flights from Italy , if that’s true then we really can’t trust the government to do any thing correctly , i’m Staggered by that , just so fucking stupid .

There have been in Italy. A women on the radio was saying that since Friday workers have now started wearing face-masks and also making sure everyone in the queue is at least 1 meter away from each other

Like johnson and his ilk give a shite if a few peasant die off.

They are more concerned in protecting the economy and gambling with the populace to do it seems to be part of it.

I would expect cummings is in his ear with the same fuckwittery being seen by trump on the subject.
