That's an optimists point of view as opposed to yours chippy.

Can I ask would you stop all public gatherings in the UK? I'm not so sure. But I would have stoped all flights from Italy a few days ago.
I initially read this as “all fights from Italy” and thought “that does seem like a reasonable measure to take”.

Are you confirming there are lower number? If that’s the case that is good news. I was following a twitter thread from an Italian medic working in Lombardy this morning and the situation sounded pretty horrific.
Yesterday's increase was of more of 1500 new cases and today's one is of 619. It's just one day but obviously hope it continues downward. The pessimistic view is of course that they're just testing less* people.

That's me most afternoons at work if no one's about.
I’ve been thinking, we may all change our usernames soon so they are more accurate to our current states of health.

Fuck me, I am not sure there is anything much more depressing than someone being so physically, emotional, and mentally drained as to fall asleep whilst weeping.

Most all medical professionals are and will be putting in truly Herculean efforts and deserve all (and any) support we can give them.
They are up there with war heroes for me. In many ways they are indeed fighting in a war. In these situations it would be easier to shy away but they are there where it counts, day and night.

I don’t believe a single number the Chinese come out with.
I think that's a fair view considering they initially tried to cover this virus up. That said it would take some balls to pretend that things had improved significantly when they were still escalating. Pretty sure they would get found out by the WHO quickly. South Korea may be a more accurate reflection of where the disease is going to go. New cases there are also starting decrease which is a positive.

As you asked, then yes, I would.

It's inescapable that the numbers of people already infected in the UK are much, much higher than the reported cases. Which do not include infected people who are not ill yet and have no idea they have it; infected people who are ill but who just think it's a cold or flu and who haven't bothered to call anyone; infected people who are ill and have not yet been tested; infected people who have been tested and have not yet got their results.

So shutting things down would IMO have represented a good opportunity to try to nip things in the bud and slow down the spread greatly. But that's just my opinion and yes I understand it would come with its own consequences like businesses going bust etc, which is clearly not desirable.

me and the mrs + 2 kids, well their not kids because ones 25 and the other 19, ive asked them to wash their hands when coming in from work or shopping and they dont get it,they think im picking at them,it takes less than 30s seconds FFS

Get the powerhouse out and spray them down in the driveway before letting them into the house. They'll soon agree to wash their hands.

I didn't mean sandwiches specifically, nor where you got them. But if you are out and about and have not had chance to actually wash your hands thoroughly (and even then) then eating with your fingers is IMO a bad idea. I have no evidence for this, but it just seems to stand to reason that if you might have virus on your hands, you don't want them anywhere near your mouth.

That's what she said sir

I think the numbers from China are now likely to be *more* accurate than they were a month or so ago, but I am not sure we have any reason to believe they are entirely accurate, as even WHO is there on negotiated terms of entry and will probably not have access to all areas or data. And China still needs to project control and a sense that coronavirus is on the decline in order to stabilise their economy and world perception of it. Not to mention China has previous for filtering information beyond this outbreak (I have dealt with it directly working with MSF and it is one of the reasons MSF suspended operations there).
