I was at a Morrisons earlier to get the elderly parents weekly shop , I was amazed at how little people were buying why go to a supermarket and just buy 2 or 3 items ? A guy in front of me had two cases of beer a cake and a loaf of bread !? It took him nearly 45 mins to get that due a bit of queing on entering and to get to the till to pay .

To be fair he might be married and needs the break.

Is it possible that the UK no longer has the police force capable of enforcing a total lockdown?
Yes. Good point.

Depletion in new recruit numbers for years, lots have left the force over pay or other factors, and now a chunk of them are isolating.

It's staggering what UK is doing. The only explanation is that it's in "herd immunity in disguise" plan. Make "stay at home" public appeals to cover your arses as much as possible, but let most of the things going on in the real time. Even USA has more strict things going on.
Does it kinda feel like weve opened our treasury's sluice gates to give a big chunk of the populace a load of paid leave?

I think that’s exactly what it is.

Herd immunity was going well for them untill football shut themselves down and they had to shut off mass gathering.because of the focus on them,it was a reckless plan that left tne vulnerable hanging

This weekend will be the nudge the government needs to actually put us into a proper lockdown. It will be a shock as so many seem to think this is already a lockdown. The images and footage that will emerge over the coming days will leave the rest of us in despair.

We seem to be keeping the cases and the critical beds at a lower level than Spain so no evidence at the moment why deaths should be more certainly not vastly more.

My cousin went to A&E the other day with Coronavirus symptoms after being told to by 111, and they refused to test him because he wasn't ill enough.

When you consider how often that's going on around the country and consider that Spain and Italy are testing more than the UK, it's impossible to compare their number of cases with ours.

Two more weeks of daily death rises according to Vallance. We're already had more than Spain has had on any single day. If it keeps rising, like they said today, we'll have 1k+ a day for a while (which will make Italy/Spain's daily death totals look small), then we've got to come back down the other side of the curve, and that will be several hundreds for some time. We've got a soft lockdown, nothing close to the intensity Spain has got. There's no way we'll match their numbers.

Doesn't make sense that if we have a soft lockdown and we're already matching the numbers of those countries with intense lockdowns that we won't have a lot more deaths.
We’ve been warned many times though about comparing daily death figures. We know today we have added in figures form as far back as mid March, we know France have had huge spikes doing the same as far as I know Spain haven’t yet done that. We won’t know the true figures for total deaths in any country until long after only then can we compare them.
The only thing we do know for certain are the numbers in critical care and if we keep our numbers there below Spain there is no reason to think when we look back we’ll have vastly more deaths. At the moment despite not having the same lock down as Spain we seem to be keeping infection and critical care numbers below theirs, if we weren’t the government would probably harden the current restrictions.

If he needed hospitalisation or critical care though he’d have been admitted and would show in those figures.

why would they pretty much shut everything down then ?

and why 1/3 of people saying the police are being heavy handed about social distancing

Because they realized the no control herd immunity would be absolute disaster. Look at current numbers and then imagine what it would be like if there is no control at all. But then look at airports being open and reportedly without any significant checks of people coming in and try to connect that with word lockdown.

Why are comparing with spain at all? We govern by consent here and we had to be asked very politely at the start and not told,we will never have a harder lockdown

did mention this,,us normal people it isnt a problem, the last thing the government want are the scrotes rioting and looting, they only just took controll of the london riots after many days of trouble by bringing in more police which left other places exposed, national civil disorder could not be dealt with even with the army out

Unless they take extreme measures and announce anyone found looting risks bring shot. Fuck them, a couple of Scroates less wouldn't be missed

Wow so that's at least another 14,000 deaths over the next fortnight.

We seem to be on a steeper trajectory than Spain and Italy. Very grim news.

Depends where you start the curve comparison from. 10 deaths, 20 deaths or 50 deaths.
10 deaths then we're ahead, 20 deaths we're level and 50 deaths we're behind.
