Covid and travel discussion

Weighing it up, I can't see anywhere in Europe going red this summer. I don't think we have the capacity to quarantine people en masse, it would be a disaster to allow travel and then pull it with large numbers of Brits Abroad that would then need to hotel quarantine. Another thing coming down the line is approx. 100k foreign students from red list countries at the end of the summer holiday period that will need to quarantine. We don't have the capacity to quarantine them and large numbers of Brits Abroad.
The only places that are red are places where there's crazy infection rates, new variants or places that are likely to be troublesome for example transit hotspots (eg. UAE/Dubai).

If you goto a more isolated holiday destination (Canaries, Balearics, Cyprus, Malta, Caribbean etc) then chances are they'll stay amber or better if they aren't red already.

We are booked to the US in September and we've all but given hope. They are seeing the start of another wave and I doubt the borders will open anytime before then but still they are amber which is the only reason why I think our flights are still set to go ahead. No doubt they are amber because the yanks are now allowed into the UK and we aren't going to say no to their business but it's a shame we can't go there..!

At the mo we are keeping the booking but looking at alternatives before we have to make a decision come balance payment day in August.

Feedback Ive had from people who have been away is that getting there is no issue, but once abroad they spent so much time filling in forms and sorting tests that they wished they hadnt bothered. It was getting home that was the issue

Well my experience is way different to that, you can pre book any test, I booked my FTF in Majorca today for the 26th and it took 5 mins, my day 2 PCR was booked a week ago and the Spanish passenger locator forms are very straightforward, the UK one is a bind on a phone but on a tablet pretty straightforward. (I have done it a couple of times)

The reality is nothing will ever be the same again sadly.
I wonder if holidays with the extortionate testing and holiday prices will just now be for the rich.
Did you see Richard Branson space trip, now that's rich

i don't trust the fuckers one bit, i expect spain to go red before the end of august

I've booked to go to mainland Spain for the last week of July. Bricking it a bit but it's the risk we've taken, barely seen the sun the last 18 months, been stuck inside working.

if it goes amber and you dont have to quaranteen you have to do your fit to fly lateral flow before you come home plus the day2 pcr do you then have to do a day 8 test as well. as i only had to do the day 2 test as it was green

If your fully vaccinated treat amber and green as the same.
So pre departure.test plus day 2 test on return
So in essence green and amber the same now for fully vaccinated individuals.
