Going here in a few weeks:

We’re in Weston super mare tonight and then down to a caravan site near newquay tomorrow for a week. First summer holiday in the UK for probably 30 years and thankfully the weather looks great. Actually nice to just be away from home.

I like that part of the world, fond memories. Best wishes to you and your family, stay safe.
Cheers, haven't been affected (yet?) directly, but a couple of colleagues from work got their flat flooded and or cannot leave their village, because streets and bridges in the area went missing...

I love to do both to be honest. When I go abroad its typically for City breaks, or a bit of touring from City to City rather than visiting a beach resort.

Not sure why the weather is a big issue to be honest. We have some great weather over here, during summer, and is much more agreeable than than the Mediterranean countries during the height of summer.

I think were pretty blessed over here. We live in a Fantastic country and have the benefit of great access to Europe, and all the fascinating cities.

I think the problem with the weather here is the unpredictability of it all.

When it's good, it's good.
When it's bad, it's fucking awful.

If you book a week on the coast in England between June and September, you could get anything from glorious sunshine to endless downpours.

If you book a week on the coast in the Med between the same dates, you're almost guaranteed daily sunshine and blue skies.

I think even more people would holiday domestically if the UK had a predictable climate, but I know many people who don't wanna be paying the UK premium to holiday here, to then be potentially hit with rain everyday. Cos if it chucks it down on your week in Devon, what do you even do?

Exactly this. We went to Cornwall a couple of weeks ago. First 2 days it was absolutely grim, to the point of it had carried on we’d have come home. But the next 5 days were great.

Yes the weather can be unpredictable but sometimes the heat during the summer months, in many countries, can be quite restrictive. Ok having the sun, but for many it just results in people sitting around all day drinking and eating. I suppose it depends on the type of holiday you prefer.

I live on the edge of a seaside resort and within an hour you can be on the Jurassic coast, Corfe Castle, New Forest, Salisbury, Winchester, Bournemouth, Southampton, Portsmouth (Naval history) the list is pretty endless. Ive been here 5 years and still discovering new places to visit.

Also with foreign holidays, many people become less adventurous as they do not have access to a car and booking train tickets etc seems a bit of a chore. That can have a limiting effect.

Still I do love going abroad, but the weather would be not a deciding factor.
