Covid and travel discussion

It's such a joke how the Gov/media are trying to portray that summer has been saved with 7 European countries added to the green list.

None of them are typical summer holiday destinations anyway, and 2 of them (Norway and Austria) we can't currently get into from the UK.

Downgrading India from red to amber seems bizarre when countries like the Maldives remain on red.

As they don't publish the data that they allegedly follow, we're none the wiser as to how they come to these baffling decisions and I'm sure many people will think they are just making it up as they go along.

They have also muddied the waters for the return test if coming back from Spain....but muddying the waters is what this shower of shite do best.

Next review is towards the end of August, when schools are soon to go back and the summer season starts to wind down.
Another summer lost for the travel industry, and no hint of any sector specific support forthcoming.

Fucking useless.

Safer to buy a tent, pitch it in your back garden and lock your house up. That way you won’t need to check any gov sites.

Yep bang on, I was meant to be going to Canaries in October but the prospect of it changing to red terrifies me.

They certainly haven’t saved my summer, ruined it by sticking Mexico on the red list

As Tonster says, it won't go red.

Even if shit hits the fan on mainland Spain, it would have to take something catastrophic on the Canaries to have them go red.

If you're still concerned, there are things that you can do to mitigate your worries (depending on what you have booked and how)

I am in Menorca at the moment, booked it the day before it turned from green to amber. And spent the 2 weeks or so panicking about one of us being told to isolate or worse getting Covid before we went.

I spent ages looking for decent insurance cover for Covid. Pretty much non of the insurers cover you for if the traffic light system changes and you decide not to travel. Important to ensure any cover you get covers you for if you are told to isolate as a lot of them didn’t seem to offer that.

I was fortunate that work said if the traffic light changes whilst I was away then you could work from home on your return or take paid sick leave if that isn’t possible.

another thing to look out for is that although it is 10 days isolation in the UKto get on a plane or enter the Balearics you mustn’t have been in contact with anyone with Covid for 14 days.

I spent the 1st week of holiday on edge about it changing to amber plus as it would have meant my oldest missing another 2 weeks of pre-season which probably wouldn’t have gone down very well. The announcements today have helped me relax for my final week thankfully.

really pleased I took the gamble but it has been quite stressful taking it. If it changed to red there is no way I could have stayed in a hotel bedroom as a family of 5 with no time out of the room. Would rather be put on a tag to prove I stayed at home than go through that.

good luck to anyone who is tempted to book.

We’re flying to Menorca on Sunday after the charity shield from London. Back the following weekend in time for Spurs. Happy days

Our youngest tested positive within 24hrs of departure for greece. shes asymtomatic. Holiday cancelled, should have landed today but now we have to all isolate at home. Might change my name to Johnson at least we wont have to isolate then.
