Covid and travel discussion

Back after a week in Madeira, everything went as smooth as possible with no issues whatsoever. Very happy we decided to take the risk

Same for me, but we went to Seville and got back last night. Madeira is a cracking choice, especially if you want quiet as it tends to be an older crowd. Year round sun as well for those who fancy a Spring trip.

Really glad we went away, very grateful as some would give their right arm to get away; also lucky that restrictions didn't change while we were abroad. Late 30s every day, had a pool on the rooftop of where we stayed. Downside was I didn't realise how many French go to Seville, they stank the gaff out in that heat, horrible cunts. Had a good time though, tried lots of new food and came back a shade or two darker.

As long as you get your admin sorted a couple of days before you fly out and fly back, you're sound. The Spanish did try and mess us about a bit at the testing centre, but goes with the territory. Set us back 45 euro each for an antigen. No paperwork at all was checked either end yesterday other than boarding pass and passport, but I did have to upload electronic proof of testing, vaccine, PLF etc when checking in online so maybe that was sufficient. Flight home dead, we got upgraded to extra leg room seats free of charge.

My advice is to be constantly checking the requirements, almost on a daily basis. When we booked our Croatia trip you didn’t need a test to travel if you were double jabbed.

The wife randomly checked it this morning and seems it’s been changed and you need a negative test before they let you in regardless of vaccine status. I’ve not heard anything on the news about that, the .gov.uk site is giving mixed messages saying you need a test and the further down you don’t need one, TUI’s site this morning says double jabbed still exempt and Jet 2 who we are going with is giving the correct info.

so check and double/triple check your sources regularly to avoid a nasty surprise.

Agreed. The usual mainstream media sources spout regurgitated bile and cause scaremongering. Been threatening Spain and Greece on amber plus for weeks, a lot is just for headlines. Stick to the gov site and get your admin sorted in plenty of time, the rest is in the government's hands.

Very sound advice indeed.

Things can change very quickly, but aren't always well documented or publicised, so regular checking is vital.
The Croatia entry rules changed about a fortnight ago but it can be easy to miss if it's not one of the big hitting summer countries (Spain and Greece basically)

Think it's possible to sign up to FCDO updates and alerts for a certain country....something else worth doing for anyone planning to travel somewhere specific in the coming weeks.

I've got a week in Kos at the end of this month, so will be keeping a close eye on all things Greece.
Also been notified by the Radisson at Manchester airport that they are staying closed for August, so it'll have to be a luxury Premier Inn instead ;)

Hopefully a step towards simplicity.

Going to Spain in 3 weeks, part of which is getting my eldest daughter to Madrid for her year abroad (delayed from last year). Just hope the current conditions hold for a while longer.

Seems like Rishi Sunak has stepped in here. I would be amazed if the current travel restrictions for Europe are made stricter through the summer. Rishi won’t stand for it.

Still seems lot of uncertainty around travel but most i know who have gone abroad have said it was worth it. The media seem determined to put a negative slant on it and usually their advice appears inaccurate.
Lastminute.com were the worst company I used and took ages to refund me for a budapest trip.
