Covid and travel discussion

No, obviously i cant. But how many variants has there been? How many more will there be ?
Whats the answer? Close borders forever ?
Well you certainly don’t throw everything open while the threat is still obvious and substantial, while no country has vaccinated even half its population and while a known vaccine-resistant strain is widespread overseas.

ONS figures today show at least 150,000 people have died with covid on their death certificate , it will be more than that, this thing is deadly , the roadmap looks sensible

We have had several great summers in a row , it will be glorious again i bet , just holiday in the uk, why give your money to other countries when you can give your money to uk businesses instead

People rightly want questions answering that never seem to get asked by the media, our freedom has been taken away for over a year now when we were told 12 weeks to flatten the curve.
Then we were told vaccines are the way out of it but over half the adult population have been vaccinated but we’re still not free

protect the NHS but if the elderly and vulnerable or now safe cos they’ve taken the vaccine and won’t catch Covid or at least won’t make them as sick then hospitalisations won’t be a problem surely ?

so why are we still not free to live our lives ?
Chris Whitty said the 3rd wave “ will find those “ who aren’t vaccinated and those the vaccine didn’t work on

So he’s saying the vaccine might not work ?
if they’re unsure about what this vaccine will and won’t do why are they so eager to make healthy people take it ?
why hasn’t the CEO of Pfizer whos 69 not taken the vaccine ?
why have they made vaccine company’s exempt from paying any damages caused by the vaccine ?
why are the people who’ve died after the vaccine not been reported on by the MSM ?

might be answers to these but I think we deserve to know them
You only just realised that no vaccine works on everyone?

We retired early 4 years ago with the sole aim of seeing the world-and have done quite well so far! Upto now I have reluctantly watched the restrictions being enforced and accepting it. However, protecting the borders is surely about incoming traffic, not restricting and fining those that want to leave our shores. If it is too onerous to return, then people won't go in the first place, but banning the ability for someone to go and sit in their villa (no I don't have one) for 6 months and then put themselves through whatever is required to reenter feels a step too far. If say, Greece is happy for me to go and I can satisfy the requirements, then the act of going to the airport and getting on a plane, also following the requirements should not be an issue.
No one can go to a property abroad in the EU for more than 90 days since Brexit.

Because its shite..

Exactly why. A different opinion is quickly rounded on by what can only be described as smart arses
When someone sticks their neck out on a forum with bizarre and/or utterly selfish and/or twisted and politicised views, they should be prepared to defend them instead of bursting into tears.

You clearly havent been to cornwall or devon , the coasts and beaches are as good as anywhere you can go abroad
That maybe so but there's n awful lot of people, rightly or wrongly, live for their trips abroad. I'm sure they are aware of the beautiful places on their own doorstep but choose to go further afield.
I'm all for banging the drum for the country you reside in but there's a reason the tourist industry for foreign travel is worth the hundreds of billions a year that it is.

So, viewing property and meeting an estate agent is now deemed a reasonable excuse to go abroad. Looks like they are back on after all

I do not disagree, where we are in Wales its utterly stunning . My issue is I shouldn't have to be told where I cannot go especially if that place is safe. I have property that will need up keep. It's been stood nigh on 2 years now. It's an utter joke how much bullshit this government spews out. The normal man is being screwed over and it seems most will accept it.

Probably members of the cabinet need to buy their holiday homes Great isn't it, you can't even buy a fucking pair of grundies from Tesco, as if I have shat myself on my way home from work it isn't an essential item.

Everything that's under restriction has risks attached to it.

The UK can allow foreign travel but we'd have to reduce risks elsewhere.

People who don't travel abroad would end up 'paying' by undergoing the restrictions neccessary to manage the overall risk.

And some other industry would pay the cost.

Bottom line is, Foreign Travel will pose a high risk.

Reasoning is that the SA variant doesn't respond to the AZ vaccine. Which is currently widespread accross Europe and elsewhere.

One holiday maker picks it up, then spends hours in recycled air with hundreds of other Brits on the way home. Dozens of people going back into work ready to transmit the variant we can't cope with.

That's far more serious than another round of Kent from people standing at the bar.

Yes but this is not a normal time , it sounds petty to moan you cant get a holiday when people have died in huge numbers , suck it up and explore the uk

I'd definitely understand if they looked at 'important' private and business travel as different than package holidays and charter flights. It's the latter that seem tailor made to wreak havoc, and surely people can do without. It is a luxury, let's be honest. But I can definitely understand the need for people to see family, maintain a property or business arrangement.

I don't reckon that's what will happen mind you, this government always go for the all or nothing approach.

As i was saying about smart arse replies. No need mate.

If people want a moan then let them moan. The last 12 months have fucked a lot of people lives up so having a rant here and there shouldn't be unexpected.
Being told to suck it up and explore the UK is an abysmal take on the current situation.

Why is it ? It is practical advice , it is where we are in the pandemic , the fact we will have any freedom will be brilliant

People don't need practical advice tbf. They already know they aren't allowed foreign holidays for a while, it doesn't mean they can't be pissed off about it even if in the grand scheme of things it's low on the list of priorities.
I'm guessing most commenting are aware of the holiday destinations in the UK they can go to if they want.
