Covid and travel discussion

Where will our players be holidaying this summer..whitby or maybe Rhyl?

Oh yes and I will probably be one of them also, but still Im looking on it as an opportunity to see more of Scotland (drive the NC500) and revisit parts of Wales from childhood holidays. Its an inconvenience but not a particular hardship.
Its not a huge hardship, I've never argued different even though my livelihood is directly affected and I'm losing an awful lot of money on a weekly basis.
I've no issue with travel being banned for the time being, it's the correct thing to do in order to hopefully get some normality by the end of the year.
I just dont think people should be given a hard time because they are ranting about not being able fly abroad. I don't think they need reminding constantly that there are places in the UK that would make a perfectly good holiday. It's no exaggeration to say that for some, it's vital to their mental well being to get away to the sunshine.

Whilst there is plenty I could say on the UK vs international holiday argument (there really shouldn't be an argument cos people can do what they want within the rule of law and the disdain shown towards people not interested in a domestic holiday is unnecessary), let's not forget that international travel does indeed support UK business.
The disdain is towards people wanting to go abroad prematurely without due regard to other people. Slightly different.

Maybe I've missed some comments but I don't see anyone wanting to travel now or in the immediate weeks against the government legislation?

I'm as desperate as anyone to get abroad but it will only be when we get the green light from the powers that be.

I'm definitely seeing an air of disdain and contempt towards those not interested in remaining in the UK when holidays abroad are permitted.

Live and let live.

The problem is that it is and will likely remain a fluid situation. even if you book last minute you could be caught out by a rule change on either travel or quarantine while you are away as happened to many last year. Employers seem to be wiseing up to this and making it clear that if you go away then any subsequent quarantine period is very much unpaid and at your own expense. We're probably just going to go somewhere crap like Wales or Scotland this year to spend 10 days or so in a tent and shitting in a bucket.
That's made my day...

And prices I suspect.
Yeah this. I was invited to a wedding in Liverpool last year (cancelled because of the pandemic) and was looking at hotels. I couldn't believe the prices. To be fair, it's the same all over Europe though if you want to stay anywhere in a vaguely touristy city.

Well I would not disagree with that but I only really piped up when someone described this country as shite or suggesting abroad was much better.

I would not really blame anyone for having a rant about anything currently. Its been a tough year and if people were using the thought of a getaway to Greece/Spain etc as a way of getting through it I cannot blame them for being peeved.

Hopefully people will make the most of the UK instead, as a wonderful alternative and discover things on their own doorstep.

PS sorry to hear about your situation, hopefully things can return to normal asap.

Yes Santa Pola and Elche but we don't mind waiting,we have a lovely holiday home in Norfolk which will open 12th April.

I was only jesting Karen. You're right of course that there are some beautiful places in the UK and some stunning beaches too (if only it was a bit bloody warmer!) I mean, I could have posted this one:

Beautiful emerald green waters, so Thailand perhaps? No, Scotland. Unfortunately the picture doesn't tell you it's like minus 5C.
That is really pretty

The issue that people may find given case numbers and vaccinations here and in europe is you may be unlucky in that you jet off to France or Spain as all the pubs and restaurants are open at home and you land abroad and they are under lockdown With all their bars and restaurants closed.

the way the numbers are going that seems more likely !!
