Do you have any data on flu?
I know at the start the fear was that numbers in addition to flu would be catastrophic. Do we have flu numbers for last winter and this winter so far?
Interested to know if flu numbers have gone up, stayed the same or if covid has pushed flu numbers down.

do you also have any access to the data coming out about missed cancer appointments to verify them? Telegraph claiming 740,000 appointments missed and previously have said around 50,000 diagnosis’s missed

I do not have access to that data, sadly. I only know how to access the Covid data by experence over the past 18 months and really have my hands full keeping up with Covid on the other thread.

But I too would be intereated to know that if someone does.

I would not be surprised to see it less active as they have expanded the age ranges getting the free flu jab this autumn so that alone should help. But as I understand flu tends to peak just afer Christmas probably partly for same reason Covid did last year wth our worst wave - people meeting up over the holidays spreading it to one another. Most of my family caught it then.

8 deaths - was 9 last week - at least this is down

2791 cases - was 2377 last week

10.5% positivity - was 9.5% last week

473 patients - was 474 last week

ENGLAND HOSPITAL DEATHS

103 with 20 North West

Was 82 with 15 NW last week

And about 120 the week before (this was the day data vanished and was neer retrieved by the NHS but this is a close approximation to the number Gov UK tallied later and the 144 all settings deaths for England recorded that day from the registrars)

THERE ARE DEFINITE HINTS IN THE LAST DAY OR TWO OF NUMBERS UP WEEK TO WEEK ON DAILY REPORTS. ONLY BY SMALL MARGINS

By Region:

East 7, London 15, Midlands 17,NE & Yorkshire 13, North West 20, South East 25, South West 6

Very unusual for South East to have the most deaths but its cases are triple the North West at the momnt and closing in on 10,000 a day on their own!

Most by trust- 6 in Birmingham

North West Trusts:

4 in Liverpool, 3 each in Blackpool, Nth Lancashire and Pennine Acute (Oldham/Rochdale), 2 in Tameside & 1 each in Chester, East Lancashire, Manchester, Morecambe & Salford

By age:

20 - 39 (3), 40 - 59 (11), 60 - 79 (49) , 80 + (40)


WE NOW HAVE THE SEVEN DAY TOTAL FOR ENGLAND DEATHS AT 5 DAYS LAST WEEK. IT WAS 496. THE WEEK BEFORE THE TOTAL WAS 475 BUT THAT WAS IMPACTED BY THE FIRST 4 DAYS HAVING NO DATA FROM THE ONE THAT WAS LOST. SO THAT NUMBER REALLY WAS AT LEAST 520 OR SO AND POSSIBLY MORE.

THE WEEK BEFORE THE TOTAL WAS 589 AND THAT HAD ONE DAY IMPACTED TOO SO WASLIKELY HIGHER

SO DEATHS ARE DOWN THIS WEEK ON BOTH THOSE WEEKS AND CLEARLY FROM THE TOTALLY UNAFFECTED WEEK THREE WEEKS AGO WHEN THE TOTAL WAS 669.

HOWEVER, THE LAST THREE DAYS OF DATA ARE ALL SLIGHTLY UP ON LAST WEEK AND SO FAR I WOULD NOT BE CONFIDENT THE DOWNWARD TREND WILL CONTINUE INTO THE NEXT SEVEN DAY PERIOD
 
Spoke to a guy who is a pensions actuary yesterday. He was saying annual deaths are well down on usual. Make of that what you will....
 
Good news on Zoe today btw.

Predicted cases back down below 80,000, daily ongoing case rises now clearly slowing and North West falls again both to 11th out of 12 UK regions with only Scotland better and down into the lower watch zone.

Northern Ireland and Wales the top two with South East having rocketed upwards to the top England region.

No shock given it had 9478 cases versus just 3707 in the North West in the real England case data last night.

South East is almost on its own driving the case rises in England. Though London has risen a lot lately too. on 5618 last night - well over the NW and climbed on Zoe in past 10 days from where NW is now to 7th and well above all three north England regions now.

This wave is definitely focused on the western nations and southerm regions pf England. Though Midlands are still proportionately higher than should be too.

Current Omicron tally in NW is 4 - two confirmed (Liverpool & Lancaster) and two suspected in Bolton.

In England there are 22 so far - the others in London, East England and South East and the East MIdlands
 
SCOTLAND DATA

27 deaths - was 20 last week - Big Jump again here - last two days are 46 V 29 last week.

3002 cases - was 2932 last week - up slightly but not as much as Wales

7.9% positivity - was 7.8% last week

680 patients - was 702 yesterday & 712 last week

48 ventilated icu - was 54 yesterday & 61 last week - The hospital numbers are at least positive here
 
Northern Ireland Data

2 deaths - was 5 last week

2272 cases - was 1549 last week - the cases are really going up in the province sadly

12,122 weekly cases - was 11,517 yesterday & 11,574 last week

34 Care Home outbreaks - was 32 yesterday & 33 last week - starting to edge up here again with inevitable consequences to follow

324 patients - was 332 yesterday & 395 last week

28 ventilated - was 24 yesterday & 24 last week
 
So all three nations cases are up week to week today by a total of 1207. If England does the same we could push 50,000 today. Let us hope not.

Deaths up slightly too from 34 to 37. Adding to (also up week to week) the total in England (hospitals only so far) - 140 - versus 116 last week

That 116 last week became 147 after 31 out of hosptal were added in England so expect something in the region of 180 UK total today.

Yesterday it was 171 UK deaths up from 149 the week before.

England yesterday added 141 of those - 39 of them being out of hospital.

So there are definite signs of an increase in deaths now. And out of hospital deaths (such as care homes) climbing are part of why.
 
As feared a pretty bad day.

The deaths are better than hoped (must have been a lot of double counting) - just 141 and only 104 of them in England (only 2 more than the hospital number).

But cases are MILES up - on 53, 945 - England 45,880 of them - highest England and UK number since 17 July.
 
However, regionally North West fared a little better than you might hope. Zoe seems to be right here.

On 4708 cases- that is up a whopping 1001 of the 4361 day to day England rise.

This is one of the biggest rises on the day. Though London and South East pushed it close and south east became the first region since January to top 10,000 cases in one day.

But week to week NW is actually DOWN by 27 from 4735. England is is up week to week by 5498.

Both rising steeply now unfortunately - Medway especially - akin to how they were in around Christmas last year. Though their Pop scores are below the 900/1000 they were then pre vaccine with not dissimilar case totals now.
