COVID Data Thread

No,it doesnt but the numbers do matter as they are at this rate fast going to get to a tipping point n England where with staff off isolating or sick and normal mid Winter reasons for patient rises already a problem then a deeper problem may occur.

You add 1000 a day for the next 10 days and we are heading for 20K plus in England.

And we do not yet know what Omicron is doing to the other nations but we have to suspect they too will escalate even if the numbers getting really sick are a small fraction as that small fraction of a huge number can be a lot.

We have to hope the cases flatten off and fall as they dd in South Africa not stay at 125 K a day if that is the number resulting in 1K a day going into hospital in England.

Yeah agreed, just by sheer volume of cases alone it will spell disater for hospitals.

Another new record 129, 471 cases.

Though fairly flat now aroumd 120K.

117.093 in England IS the highest ever in England only. It was 80,916 a week ago.

18 deaths - 15 England and 3 Wales - but data is incomplete and been VERY sparse over several days so there may be quite a catch up number at some point.

Ventilartors are DOWN though by 18 to 758

This will probably be the only useful metric now as Chris Hopson alluded to in his thread. If 100% of people in the community catch a virus that gives them a sniffle, then 100% of hospital admissions under our current measuring process will be ‘covid admissions’. I’m afraid Omicron has made the current data pretty useless.

Do you know anything about the 'lag' on lab tests? I was looking at London, and it seems incomplete from the 19th onward.

This was the day the North West and Greater Manchester became London - the sequel.

Some huge numbers.

REGIONS:

LONDON 22,981 - up from 22,224 V 20,491 last week Flattened off quite a bit here but staying high.

BUT COMING UP FAST ON THE WING JUST AS ZOE PREDICTED EARLIER:

NORTH WEST 20,183 - up from 13,973 V 8481 last week - HUGE rise - biggest ever on day and in the week in NW (6210 on the day and 11.702 up in week)

AND THE OTHER BIG RISERS

WEST MIDLANDS 11,702 - up from 7461 V 6416 last week

AND

EAST MIDLANDS 8237 - up from 7453 V 6368 last week

Other regions:-

South East 16,236 - up from 13,307 V 13,753

East 14,087 - up from 11,698 V 9916

Yorkshire 9793 - DOWN from 11,222 V 4654

South West 7904 - up from 6193 V 6302

North East 4339 - up 3190 V 2322

I mentioned a couple of times a week or so ago that the sheer volume of them was leading to test returns taking longer than usual and pretty much everywhere was finding them unusually slow. They just seem to accept it as a consequence of Omicron. I imagine the long holiday break with extra bank holidays due to Christmas and New Year at weekends will slow them further.

Greater Manchester had 42.9% of the North West total of 20,183 today - a bit higher split than yesterday but it has been higher still of late.

8662 - a new record for Greater Manchester - UP by 3078 on yesterday. Higher than almost every North West total up to the past week!

Some really huge case numbers - THREE boroughs over 1000 cases on the same day for the first time ever.

Multiple Pop Scores over 300. None under 200.

Another day like no other.

MANCHESTER 1677 - Up 678 on day & 818 on week - Pop Score 302 to enter the 22K club after just 4 days in the 21K club (POP 22,247)

STOCKPORT 1042 - Up 376 on day & 606 on week - Pop Score 353 to enter the 21K club after just 3 days in the 20K club! (POP 21,146) Long gone (as in over a week!) their leadership for near 2 years as best Pop in GM across the pandemic.

SALFORD 1032 - Up 503 on day & 686 on week - Pop Score 393* MOST TODAY AND HIGHEST EVER IN GM. Will very probably be the first in GM into the 23K club tomorrow! (POP 22,863)

TRAFFORD 867 - Up 329 on day & 423 on week - Pop Score 365 to enter the 22K club after 3 days in the 21K club (POP 22,116)

WIGAN 863 - Up 52 on day & 480 on week - Pop Score 261 (POP 21,671)

OLDHAM 790 - Up 503 on day & 567 on week - Pop Score 334 (POP 21,553)

BOLTON 653 - Up 82 on day & 355 on week - Pop Score 227* (POP 20,607) Lowest Pop Score today - and highest ever 'low' score. Only one left in 20K club for a cople of days anyhow. Gained a HUGE 126 on Stockport to increase its lead as best in GM across the pandemic to 539 - a 1000 plus turnabout in just over a week. An event unimaginable without Omicron.

TAMESIDE 618 - Up 200 on day & 370 on week. Pop Score 272 (POP 21,707)

ROCHDALE 588 - Up 181 on day & 354 on week. Pop Score 263 (POP 21,975)

BURY 532 - Up 184 on day & 283 on week. Pop Score 279 (POP 21,883)

Good morning healdplace. Just wondered if there was any sign that the extra restrictions in place in Scotland and Wales were having an effect on case numbers. Or cant we tell as yet due to the lack of data?

Don't know how they get this data, tested positive on lateral flow yesterday morning.
Checked today for a test, no postal, drive through, walk through test available.
Pass the Etihad any day and the test centre is like a ghost town.

Scotland and Wales numbers SEEM to be going through the roof too from what little data we have had.

Today is the only day until next Tuesday when everywhere is supposed to report data and not be on one of the multiple extra bank holidays caused by Christmas and New Year being at weekend.

But all the restrictions were probably too late to stop the wildfire that is Omicron. And what we do know from Scotland and Wales is that they have had record numbers too over recent days. So seems that they were a bit like a pea shooter trying to put out an already raging fire. Possibly the real reason England never bothered thinking if necessary better to do them when nobody really cares self isolating rather thn going to work in early January when folks are in a post holiday slump.

WALES DATA

First report today is not as bad as feared. To answer the question above.

Though this is pretty high here for a single day only it is not out of proportion with just pre Christmas. Nor up by miles from last Wednesday.A 30% increase with Omicron is on the good side I would say.

2 deaths - was 3 last week

5929 cases - was 4662 last week

NO HOSPITAL DATA SINCE LAST WEDNESDAY

ZOE DATA UPDATE

HEADLINE:- LIKE YESTERDAY NORTH WEST IS UP AGAIN BUT BY LESS THAN YESTERDAY BUT CLOSING THE GAP ON LONDON IN SECOND PLACE FOR UKs WORST AS LONDON FALLS AGAIN:

LONDON last 3 days 5587/6080 TO 5537 / 6021 TO TODAY:- 5305 / 5770

NORTH WEST last 3 days 2700 / 3175 TO 2920 / 3403 TO TODAY :- 3062 / 3546

East is in third just behind North West but climbing more slowly. South East in 4th but edging up only very slowly now. East Midlands in 5th rising like NW. Yorkshire has climbed rapidly into 6th place and is up more than NW today and looks to be the next region about to catch fire with Omicron. West Midlands p a lot too in 7th. Wales in 8th is up the most today outside Northern Ireland -in 9th - though the data here on Zoe is least reliable. South West in 10th is falling like London. The only ones. North East and Scotland in 11th and 12th are both rising by quite a bit

Predicted daily cases now 192,290 - up from 188,516 day before - the increase is clearly slowing now.

Ongoing infections top 2 million on 2,079,155 - up from 1,998,302 day before.

Both of these are highest ever by far ever. of course.

But there are now some clear signs that the rise is slowing in both.

Greater Manchester on Zoe - by the way - supports the real data. Everywhere is going up!

Manchester 39,316

Tameside 38,231

Bolton 30,716

Salford 29,611

Wigan 28,813

Oldham 28,549

Bury 24,430

Trafford 24,201

Stockport 24,068

Rochdale 15,940

THIS IS THE HIGHEST EVER THE TEN BOROUGHS HAVE ALL BEEN ON ZOE.

Stockport second best and had over 1000 cases in the data yesterday says it all!

BBC GRAPH OF THE WALES CASES BOBBLING ALONG UNTIL OMICRON ARRIVED LATE LAST WEEK AND THEY SPIKED THROUGH THE ROOF AND SHOT RIGHT UP OVER THE CHRISTMAS WEEKEND.

FROM 2000 OR SO A DAY TO 6000 OR SO A DAY SINCE.

SCOTLAND DATA

THESE COVER A WIDE SPREAD OF DAYS OVER CHRISTMAS AND YESTERDAY BUT EXCLUDE THE ONES REPORTED PREVIOUSLY FOR 25 DEC (8252), 26 DEC (11,030) & 27 DEC (10,562) - SO ARE ALLOCATED AS OF YESTERDAY

3 deaths - was 11 last week (Registrars closed do not forget due to holidays so not the fall it appears)

15,849 cases - was 2434 last week Obviously a new record but that is almost a redundant word to add these days

28.9% positivity - was 13,0% last week

679 patients - was 536 on last report 24 Dec & 536 last Wednesday - Big rise as you can see of 25% pretty much like the one seen in England over same period (30%)

36 ventilated - was 34 on 24 Dec & 40 last week

According to the BBC Poland on Wednesday recorded 794 Covid-related deaths, the highest number in this wave.

More than three-quarters were unvaccinated.

Poland has only a 55% vaccinated rate.

By the way ALL 25 of the Highest UK Weekly Pop Scores are in London.

Lambeth on 2874 is the highest EVER in the UK.

Recall though that these official Pop Scores use 5 day old data.

The ones I post for GM are of today. And so pretty well everywhere is higher on mine than on the official numbers for GM you may see on the news due to them being a few days older and cases here having escalated fast.

Even so the highest in GM is Salford on 1697 - well below Lambeth.
