Just had a chat with my 10 year old grandson who had no idea who/ what cowboys and Indians were. You could put this down to a generational thing, not being taught US history and not watching old westerns on the telly. I just found it amazing he didn’t know, so being a film fan, here’s a question. What 5 films would you choose to teach him about cowboys & Indians?

Last of the mohicans.
Dances with wolves.
Any Sergio leone spaghetti western.
Pale rider.

Most westerns including most of the above are just Hollywood’s interpretation of cowboys and Indians.
In reality most cowboys couldn’t hit a barn door, and the story of the Indians isn’t just about the plains men, it’s the whole of North American varied habitat, fishermen on the coasts (1st to be wiped out).

go proper old school with some john ford movies:-
stagecoach
the man who shot liberty valance
the searchers
fort apache
my darling Clementine

Not a western but An Indian in my cupboard is probably more age appropriate than some of the others and more educational than John Wayne's typical films.
