I'd have serious doubts that the Aussie Test batting line up circa 2000 would've got 430+ on a 4/5th day wicket, let alone a rebuilding SA side

Especially not in the 2nd game of a 4 match series, you risk the draw with other chances to come. If this had been the final test I reckon the declaration could have been 10 overs sooner.
