Why not?
its cricket and playing for your country at test level nothing beats it
Why not?
Just about to become a father and had been given the next two Tests off so that he could spend time with his wife. An unusually timed decision in the circumstances.comes across a bit immature.
Probably. He‘s said he’ll still make himself available for the Proteas in shorter formats. Started the year captaining the Test side as well. Not enough money in it and too time consuming.
He’ll become a franchise T20 player round the world.
Series are done in a couple of weeks though, leaving him 40 weeks to pick and choose his franchises and set his fees.Probably. He‘s said he’ll still make himself available for the Proteas in shorter formats. Started the year captaining the Test side as well.
Yeah , I guess life has become too fast paced. No one has time to watch cricket for 5 days. Everyone either ends watching 20% of match or just highlights. Why not?
In England, there needs to be a rapprochement between the ECB and the Counties if that’s to happen, but one can’t help conclude that the ECB might have already determined that Test cricket is inexorably dying and has positioned ODI, T20, and the Hundred as its heirs. A slow but painful death then awaits. Perhaps I’m being overly pessimistic, but unless we see major reconstruction in the next 24 months, then perhaps I’m not.i fear test cricket will be a thing of the past if nothing is done by the people that love the game
ODI and 20/20 white ball cricket is now the main sport of cricket players want big money for quick cricket all year round and greed has taken over
if 5 a-side football took off big time with the players you think all the football governing bodies would let it happen ?
something has to be done right now and change how cricket is being run and played. proper cricket is test cricket end of story. it has to come first with county cricket being the base for talent to be grown and learn the trade
revamp county cricket and 4 day cricket bring it back to main stream free to air tv. play day night games that also have something on it like bonus points for wickets and runs so players and fans can get right into it
even have a combi day with a 20/20 game as part of the fixture
but please don't let test cricket fade away
Yes, and the times of those series will be scheduled so as not to clash with other franchises; any overlap will involve Tests, which will thus become increasingly marginalisedSeries are done in a couple of weeks though, leaving him 40 weeks to pick and choose his franchises and set his fees.
South Africa going the same way as the Windies. Their domestic structure cannot compete with the riches on offer around the world. Not enough money in it and too time consuming.

Quinton de Kock (29) has announced he’s retiring from Test cricket with immediate effect.

Just checked and the IPL runs from April 2nd through June 3rd next year, and England play the final day of their third Test in the West Indies on March 28th and the first day of the first Test against New Zealand is June 2nd. How could Stokes, for example, captain England and still play in the IPL?Yep a lot of players will fuck of test cricket 29 is no age for retiring from test cricket! He could play another 10 years playing 20/20 1 day games!
Am just surprised England test players don’t retire at a similar age?! It’s relentless the amount of test matches England play in a year, In know it was me I’d piss it of for 20/20 ipl cricket where it’s a 4 hour game.
It’s to late Test match cricket is dying! England haven’t took it seriously for the last 6 years why should players.
Test Cricket has always been elitist, only a few national teams get a play it, and the format will never grow that way.
Lot of new countries have emerged through the T20 format, with new teams breaking through and beating established associate teams.
With players contracted to 5 teams in a year, Test will go the way of List A and CC cricket. It isn't just the ECBs fault it is the public who no longer watch cricket matched which last over 2hrs 45 minutes at any level bar England.
Is that realistic? It’s hugely popular with those of us who have grown up watching and appreciating it, but it’s sadly no longer the pinnacle for many players. As I say, the decisions taken in the next two years will be telling.spot on
its got to happen right now and the ECB need to show they want test cricket at the top table and promote and build a new system. i don't see how the ECB can let this go on any longer without major changes ? we are all ready calling for a new coach and captain and players at test levels because this lot are hopeless
i can see a major challenge to the ECB if nothing is done then somebody will try and build a new governing body with a major money backer to take over ? test cricket is far to good just to rip it up and bin it
