Indeed.
I have mentioned the England team on here quite a few times.
Standards have risen sharply over the last few years.

One thing that has been clear is that there are 2-3 countries who are ahead of the others, likely connected to funding and opportunity. England, Australia, and maybe India - but the others are nowhere near the same level.

I agree.
It would, of course, be even better if a few more countries came up to the top level.

Absolutely, but there's not much funding or drive to do so in some of those countries. Nobody plays test matches much, even England/Australia barely have them in the weird format they run, so no-one improves. If, and I'm not convinced it will, it does happen, it's a 20 year plan, and we're maybe in the first 5.

I don't know whether the SA team are professional - if they aren't, they have no chance of catching up.

It makes it difficult for me to be enthused by the England Women's cricket team much of the time - it would be like City playing Norwich and celebrating wildly when winning.

I don’t think that was SA best team out there.
Not sure where Van Niekirk was but she’s their best player. Liselle Lee has just retired too. Kapp wasn’t playing either. They certainly lack strength in depth.
Whilst I agree on the situation with England it’s the overall standards of the better players I enjoy.
It’s good to talk about the Womens game and I enjoy the increased exposure.

Thanks, hadn't realised it wasn't a first team - I've heard of the others you mention.

Have the crowds been good for it? That's a key point of how to make the game stronger, as it draws sponsors.

I’m not sure about the crowds sorry.
I think Cricket is in the Commonwealth Games so that will be interesting for the exposure and gauge on crowds.

In case anyone missed it on sky a few days ago a really good discussion about how franchise cricket is slowly taking over and how the 50 over game is being squeezed out

They got rid of 50 overs from county for a while, and now it is back they banned overseas stars and have it as a complete clash with the 100, and half the players are 2nd XI.
