instant cricket kills the sport and county/test cricket
everybody want to smash the shit out of a cricket ball and score big runs in a hour

why don't they give the bowlers something like smaller bats or bigger wickets or scratching the ball to make it swing
then invent 10 over cricket 4 games in a day
Not sure what your on about tbh mate, the fact is cricket can't survive as a pro sport without the one day game because that pays the wages. And no I'm not a fan of the hyped-up hundred. Just do the t20 bigger and better, like the IPL. No reason to have 2 versions of the shortest form of the game.

Cricket would be all but dead without the shorter forms. I love test cricket as much as the next person but that's the truth.

County cricketers were earning less than an entry level office job and the grounds were barely occupied because the county games were during work hours and none of the big players barely played it anyway due to central contracts.

At least the shorter forms encourage more kids to pick up the game and keep the sport alive and it gives the players a decent wage.

but kids want to be 20/20 stars and will know nothing about cricket or test cricket if they don't go and watch it

Braithwaite played a shot the other night which was just a simple straight drive, and it ended up being a six! Even the commentator said how he purposely didn't put too much power into the shot. It's crazy. On the flipside the bowling has got more inventive. I miss the technique of the players of yesteryear with the smaller bats but those days are gone now.

I think the future of the 4 day game needs looking at though. I wonder if this move away from county names in the Hundred is a forerunner to a similar setup for the longer game. The county championship in a normal season is too many games and you don't get the internationals playing in it enough. A smaller number of teams with games between the tests to allow England players to play would attract more fans.

I can actually see the Hundred replacing T20 as well, eventually.

am talking about the quality of a player being able to play all the shots and defend then bat for days.
value your wicket test yourself and become a test match player. look am not saying ODI cricket is not good to watch and has entertainment value but so does test match cricket

Cricket has prostituted itself and has dropped its metaphorical drawers for a quick fistful of dollars.

To hell with 150 first-class years of history of our wonderful summer game, with its infinite variety and traditions.

Get the great unthinking masses in and give them an explosion of noise and bang-bang.

O my Hutton and my Compton long ago.

So far not impressed with the 100. Too much razzamatazz and moving players all over the country does not give you any affiliation to the team nearest to where you live. The domestic 20/20 is far better in my humble opinion.

I've watched a bit of The Hundred so far and am going this afternoon to watch Manchester.

It makes me laugh as someone else has pointed out that a lot of it is "dumbing it down" and an easy access for younger people or people who haven't previously had an interest in cricket to get involved yet the commentators are still using cricket vocabulary - heard Tufnell saying X was bowling a Doosra, how on earth are you supposed to know what that is if you're completely new to the game?!

It's a shame that after all this on BBC we don't have the India series on Channel 4 like we did in the winter, as those people new to the game would then be exposed to the real modern greats of the game in the greatest format.

I think the women's tournament is the more intriguing one.

The men's Hundred is essentially the same as all the other T20 competitions, a poor man's IPL if you want to be particularly harsh. Especially as a some of the top Englishman will be away playing India in the Test Series soon whereas international cricket is pretty much suspended for the duration of the IPL.

All the women's games are free on YouTube as well so easier for people to watch as well.
