looking at the last 2 test in the west indies and the wicket being dead from the start. 2 spinners would have done a better job ?

can i say that am not a big lanky fan. i hated Neil fairbrother what a twat he was and never bothered with them after that.
am going on what i watched over the last 2 or 3 seasons with games on tv and highlights on youtube he looks the part. yes his batting and fielding needs work but so do most spin bowlers

Whoa now cowboy what’s with the hate for Fairbrother? Can’t remember him being anything more than a very good one day player for England and Lancs and a good enough long form player, have I missed some outrage apart from the fact he’s a player agent nowadays

Maybe he’s Root’s agent!

Fucking hell you bear a grudge

Not much, but he doesn’t have a “magic“ ball as of yet.

He’s got a decent average against the fodder he plays against in the County Championship. Look how good most of those batsmen are when they reach test cricket.

Parkinson is currently overhyped as he hasn’t been tried yet.

Remember Simon Kerrigan?
I am agreeing with you Al !!!
From what I’ve seen he doesn’t zip the ball like the top leggies.
As for special ball you need a good googly and/or slider.

That reply was to ancoats, apologies if it was OTT in rhetoric. He seems to think that picking Parkinson will mean we win the next 200 test matches or so and Root is beyond idiotic in not doing so.

He may well be better than Leach. It isn’t proven though.

If you look at Warne, most of his wickets were as a result of his brain, not just his wrist, although that helped too!

I don’t see the same winning mentality in Parkinson, nor cricketing brain.

As an aside, I was watching the Warne bowling masterclass on Sky Sports from a few years back the other day. Bowling to Nasser.

Unbelievable how good he was. He would bowl his first over to get to know the pitch. And in this case knew his best ball after 3. He went from bowling wide left over the wicket to wide right around the wicket to create different angles.

Throw in the mind games and chat which he was just so good at and he could bowl any ball, the batsman would just be shitting it.

Leach comes in for a lot of stick but his bowling average is okay. Compare it to Swann and Lyon. Both solid spin bowlers, both with similar averages. Leach has been in some dark dark places in terms of how many overs he's had to bowl, how poor the position has been. Sometimes he's bowled poorly but that's largely because he's been out of practice. I'm not sure Parkinson does any better. He's 5 years younger and we'd likely have to throw him under the bus for 2 years before we knew!

Swann had a better cricketing brain and mentality than Leach.

The closest bowler to Leach for England was Monty Panesar. He again lacked the cricketing brain to be consistently good, but had a better action and revs on the ball than Leach does.

Leach is consistent and can hold an end up like Giles did, without winning many games for us.
