I could have sworn there was a more recent one, but as you say they’re currently like hen’s teeth, especially for the openers.

This England test cricket team is maybe the worst I've ever seen. Staring down the barrel at another series defeat and looking like 1 win in 17 outings. For all of the laughter at the 1990s lads, they'd occasionally turn it on, played with spirit and didn't throw in the towel when series were already lost.

root is untouchable as captain sadly

when the ECB did not the balls to sack root as captain after the ashes was the day root knew its a job for life or until he steps down from the role. when he comes out and says he thinks he is the best man for the job he believes it
