Amazing!

The Aussies will have a lot of regrets about dropped catches and bad reviews but the worst thing they did was allowing Leach to only face 1 ball an over and then when they did bowl at him they bowled absolute wank. Oh well.

Its difficult to comprehend just how good that Stokes Knock actually was. Almost 80 needed, not just to win, but to keep the Ashes alive, and with an inexperienced number 11 at the other end. And then he smashes it all around the ground, all this while having to farm the strike to protect Leach. To get every run bar one under that sort of pressure is a remarkable achievement. He must have ice running through his veins Stokes.

Stokes has to go and Open , if not put Denly opening , move Stokes to 3 Root to 4 and replace Butler with one of the youngsters !

No chance you leave him where he is.

He’s a match winner when the pressures on, you don’t give them a chance to get him early you need him when the going gets tough!

The finest innings by an English test batsman in the history of the game.

To go from 7 runs from 79 balls when digging in was desperately needed, to winning the game with 135 not out from 219 balls, everything around him collapsing, the ashes literally on the line. He knew he needed to quickly get the total down to relieve pressure on Leach and so he hit three 6’s in succession after defending for an entire day’s play.

The pressure must have been immense and that is what the sport is all about.

It says it all the Australians were telling him straight how well he’d done.

The man has surpassed Flintoff as an all rounder for me after that test and Flintoff was the man.

Not ashamed to say I had tears in my eyes watching him celebrate, this is the pinnacle of sport.

I'd kept my eye on the score since this morning. Knowing we had one wicket left as City game ended I fully expected to see us all out as we switched to watch.
I swear this year, sport wise, has knocked 10 years off my life.
Congrats to Leach too, that was immense.

This is a totally underrated comment. If Leach hadn’t stuck in there then Stokes’s effort would’ve all been in vain. We’ve spoken a lot on here about test cricket and how it’s not all about Hollywood shots and scoring at over 6 an over but when England went 9 down with 70-odd still needed, Stokes figured that twatting them out of the park was the right way to go - scoring at only 2 an over at that point would’ve seen us lose the game - and he backed Leach to hold up the other end while he got on with it.

Yep can't disagree with that. That and the wasted review hurt.

What does number of appeals left have to do with the umpire making a decision?
I was replying to another poster who thought England had used all pf their reviews. The poster was speculating that the umpire may have thought the call was marginal but chose not to give it as didn’t want to be wrong with England having no challenges left.

The most nailed on Sports Personality Of The Year there’s ever been?
