Time after time, our three openers simply don't deliver. One of them may occasionally, but you can virtually bet that the other two will be out cheaply, or for a duck. That, surely, is a pretty important structural area of weakness.

The management say if the opening partnership get us to 50 they've done there job and why Crawley never gets dropped

Pope hadn’t played 3 for Surrey and was doing excellently at 4. Root couldn’t and didn’t want to play up at 3, and Surrey accommodated England’s wish by playing Pope there in the Championship, where he was unconvincing. It’s little surprise, then, that his form there for England has been so disappointing. Such a defeat in Pakistan will be chastening, to be sure, but if it focuses attention on finding someone who can naturally play at 3 before the Ashes, then it’s a small price to pay.

They were saying about our spinners who don't change the pace like the Pakistan spinners who are world class compared to leach Rehan and Bashir but Rehan and Bashir can learn it they are still very young Leach though is the old fashioned spinner who is there to tie down an end pick up a couple of wickets!

England though won't change much if anything because they'll take the losses at these countries and concentrate on Australia and India
Spot on, with all that. Leech is a just a nice guy who's 'a good tourist' no doubt!!!!!!

We have made it clear everything is on Ashes.
A lot of eggs in one basket, that.

Spinner wise I'm interested to see how Charlie Barnard develops at Lancs. I know I'm biased, because he also plays for my local side in the Cheshire Prem, but he's good.

Farhan Ahmed is another exciting youngster.
Of the current pair, I really like Bashir. Good control for a young lad and Rehan Ahmed has a magic ball in him, although much less control at the moment.

Utterly wretched. Yes; the pitch was prepared to be friendly for the home team. But doesn't every country do that? Grounds in England are prepared to be seamer friendly, aren't they? And teams will lose games. But to go down as meekly as that is unacceptable. Even though conditions will be different in Australia, this winter could be very messy.

The Ashes next winter is a target, Bringing in Brendon McCullum for all formats is the main reason

But nothing will change with England's batsmen facing spin because it's too late to learn, it shown in the last 2 tests that England is never going to learn. Stokes padding up and leaving the ball is schoolboy stuff, You can not use your pads anymore with DRS,

So it is about 12 months before the ashes, It will start on the first morning with the first ball, then normally we lose the ashes.

We can’t play spin because our test players have very little practice against it…….same reason we don’t have many top class spin bowlers

“The Ashes is a simple competition. 22 men throw, hit or chase a little red ball for several days, and at the end, the Australians win.” — with apologies to Gary Lineker

Being top of your game and playing for England you should have all the skills, I don't think many in this squad can play spin, Root is the only one who can focus and play it but even he's been coughing up his wicket.

(very little practice against it) Well that is why we go to Pakistan and India you have to learn out there in the middle and not in the nets, Your techniques are worked out in the nets. but it's a whole new ball game facing it under pressure in the heat with their fans.

Stokes's wicket padding up and leaving the ball is a shocker for a so-called world-class player,
