Just looked back to compare the respective sides from the Hobart Test, which was the last in the 4-0 defeat in 2021. The only change in the Australian side is Hazlewood for Boland. By comparison, there are five changes from the England side: Burns, Malan, Billings, Woakes, and Wood all played. Tend to underappreciate how consistent Australia have been.

The England batting lineup was shocking for England in 2021 and without Root, it would have been 5.0
the batting has been sorted but the bowling has been left to Anderson and Broad for far to long,

Archer and Wood injuries have taken their toll, but its the spinner department and having a part-time spinner in Moeen Ail and then Jack Leach,

Lyons was making his 100 test starts in a row sort of says it all really shows how serious the Aussies take test cricket,

Embarrassing display. I enjoy the so called bazball, But come on we just have to have a plan B sometimes..I think a smarter team would of won the first test and be in control of the second..imo of course..

Against a team like this yes, against lesser teams probably not, he's bowled OK today, but been a bit unlucky, but I think the time is coming.
I'm amazed he's still around. I'm guessing a fast bowler's body comes in for fierce hammer. Back, knees, shoulder, ankles, wrist. And he's nearly as old as me.*

*possible slight exaggeration.

To be fair Anderson has been placed in cotton wool for a long time.

But been absolutely brilliant until these last 2 tests. He’s not relied on pace for years and seems to have an effortless action. Which is why he’s been able to stay at the top for so long compared to people like Flintoff and Stokes who had to put everything into each delivery

I think the batting has been improved but not quite sorted. Pope is still learning to play at number three and does not look entirely comfortable there. Surrey have tried to help by playing him there, but England are currently accommodating two number fours.
Completely agree on the reliance on Broad and Anderson. The last year gave hope that they could rally for one last hurrah, but they are increasingly looking their years.
On the spinners I have little sympathy. Every team should plan for the loss of any player, even a spinner, and turning to Ali again smacked of desperation. It didn’t send a good signal to the younger players who had toured Pakistan either. They’ll probably persist with Root now.
