With Pope out we could play Foakes and just have Bairstow as a batter.
If he was in the squad ..... but he isn't and they are not calling anybody else up.With Pope out we could play Foakes and just have Bairstow as a batter.
How can you get better at test cricket levels if you are a spin bowler and you don't play ? Reham Ahmeed needs to play in test matches not just in the nets, I would even say play him even if he is shit for a couple of games because that way you can learn and get better, This lad took 5 wickets in a test inning in Pakistan so he can bowl,
I think if the Aussies had somebody like Reham Ahmed he would be playing Knowing how well leg spin have done in the past
I remember being at the Old Trafford test on day 2 and his figures weren't great. Pretty sure he conceded over 100 runs in England's first innings - plenty of us were winding the Aussies up in our stand about it. I think he did eventually take a wicket during that innings, at which point they finally gave a bit back!Don't get me wrong Gillespie was quality... but that summer was the beginning of the end for him. Pietersen took him apart in a 1 dayer before the series started and it never got any better for him.
Ahmed (Leicestershire )and Jacks (Surrey) have both already played for England in the Test team; they both traveled to Pakistan and played last winter. The fact that they have not been called up in Leach's absence is not so much a criticism of their bowling (they're both good players), but perhaps more an acceptance that England's batting is not as strong as was hoped, and that in turn puts more onus on an already creaky bowling unit. I imagine they hope that Ali has a couple of big innings left in him.Like I say, I'm not familiar with the county scene. Not even sure I've even heard of the bloke you're on about so I can't really comment. I can only assume he's hardly tearing it up at county level and that's why he hasn't been given a chance? I could be wrong and he could be doing that for all I know.
Perhaps if they lose at Headingley they'll be a bit more risqué with their selections as the other games are effectively dead rubbers. Somewhat understandable they want to go for tried and trusted in an Ashes series and if we were 2-0 up like we could easily have been we'd probably not be having this conversation mate.
CrawleyPossibly. Enables them to stick with four seamers. Not sure they like the extra long tail unless Woakes plays at 8.
Then again if Stokes is able to bowl a marathon spell of short stuff surely he can negate the need for a 4th seamer.
I reckon Lawrence will come in, Ali back at 8 plus Wood and any 2 from Broad, Tongue and Robinson.
I think that was the end of his series after getting clattered around Edgbaston in the previous test.I remember being at the Old Trafford test on day 2 and his figures weren't great. Pretty sure he conceded over 100 runs in England's first innings - plenty of us were winding the Aussies up in our stand about it. I think he did eventually take a wicket during that innings, at which point they finally gave a bit back!
Edit - just checked and yep, his figures were 1-114 off 19 overs - the wicket being that of Geraint Jones - so he went for exactly 6 an over. As a comparison, even Simon Katich only went for 4 an over off his 9 overs in that innings.
They’ll need eyes in the back of their head.Wonder who be coming in at 3 now?
That's the sensible solution, so they obviously won't even consider it.With Pope out we could play Foakes and just have Bairstow as a batter.
