Cricket Thread

Like I say, I'm not familiar with the county scene. Not even sure I've even heard of the bloke you're on about so I can't really comment. I can only assume he's hardly tearing it up at county level and that's why he hasn't been given a chance? I could be wrong and he could be doing that for all I know.

Perhaps if they lose at Headingley they'll be a bit more risqué with their selections as the other games are effectively dead rubbers. Somewhat understandable they want to go for tried and trusted in an Ashes series and if we were 2-0 up like we could easily have been we'd probably not be having this conversation mate.

I think its more to do with the England setup, They control the amount of cricket and what form of cricket you play,
For me, I think England are scared of playing a Leg spinner because they can go for a lot of runs with the modern-day setups with the batsman looking to take them out of the attack,

Is Moeen Ail the Answer sorry not for me, same as jack leach both down don't rip teams apart and dazzling the batsman with a wonder ball,

England has to start having a balanced bowling attack and that includes a spinner, Stop looking to add another batter/part-time spin bowler, Its works for the Aussies with Lyons he just played 100 tests in a row so they know the value of a spinner, People think a spinner is just about taking wickets ? well it's not, they offer much more than just spinning the ball, Just mixing it up with a spinner sort of changes the batsman's timing and something else to think about, Also the batsman loves taking them on and can cough up his wicket,

Agree with all of that.
DIfficult to see how it can happen when the better weather is dominated by the white ball. April/May is no time to be trying to spin a wet ball in the cold.

The short-termism is astonishing. Sacrificed stuff for the 50-over world cup. Won that, and promptly binned the 50-over domestic competition into irrelevance and introduced a second sloggit competition.

Same logic surely applies to Ali at 3?
The obvious answer, although he might not want to hear it, is Root.
That was Stokes first serious spell and he seemed to be moving ok on Sunday. Makes me think he'll be able to back it up so Lawrence comes in either at 3 or they slot him in lower and move Root up.

This is my prediction (not my preference!)

Crawley
Duckett
Root
Lawrence
Brook
Stokes
Bairstow
Ali
Broad
Robinson
Wood
Possible but I think we both know that Root hates playing at 3. That's one of the reasons Pope has had to move up the order. Pope has only played a handful of games at 3 for Surrey and is much less comfortable there than he is at 4, which is why I sense that position is a a bit of England's Achilles' heel. Ali and Lawrence have both batted at 3, so those are possibilities. If they are making 3 changes to the team, I guess they'll want to reduce the disruption to the order.

How can you get better at test cricket levels if you are a spin bowler and you don't play ? Reham Ahmeed needs to play in test matches not just in the nets, I would even say play him even if he is shit for a couple of games because that way you can learn and get better, This lad took 5 wickets in a test inning in Pakistan so he can bowl,

I think if the Aussies had somebody like Reham Ahmed he would be playing Knowing how well leg spin have done in the past

I get down to Leicestershire a fair bit and I'll tell you now this kid is gonna be something. Worries me that this mentality of being to scared to play a leg spinner could allow us to miss out on a few gems.

The lad can bat as well, could easily hold is own at number 8.

Whereas we have a history of the opposite. Not dissimilar to the Stewart/Russell days or when James Foster was considered the best gloveman but rarely got a look in.
How Foster or Hegg never became Englands number 1 is a mystery muddled thinking still going on today.
