I'm not that surprised. My impression is that the last 2-3 years he's been trying to smash it more, for some years he wouldn't try and backed away from anything quick. Went from being a no. 8 to no. 10!

He's probably got a decent average in the last 2-3 years.

That would be an argument that wouldn’t hold up under any scrutiny though, given Trescothic has freely admitted to being Englands designated ball tamperer; Atherton got caught ball tampering in South Africa; Panesar has admitted England systematically ball tampered and Broad and Anderson themselves got in trouble over roughing up the ball with their spikes.

To be honest I tend to find the sandpapergate discourse incredibly boring and hypocritical - no one else has gotten permanent bans for ball tampering, why would Smith, Bancroft and Warner? Because they’re Australian?

I think I'd only heard of Atherton's from that list!
 
No Wood, Again if he is carrying an injury it sort of says to the Aussies ok one bowler less to fear so just don't do anything silly and the runs will come, Moeen Ali is not fully fit, and Root is not in the team for bowling,

The England bowling attack this summer has been looking old and not in any sort of shape or form to hurt the Aussies.
This must be the oldest bowling attack in England's history, and again it's so painful watching Jimmy Anderson being asked to produce the goods at 41 and its why broad is stepping down

Do you think Anderson needs dropping after this match, and having the decision to retire from international cricket taken out of his hands?
