I agree, and just reinforced the 'big ground' counties who benefitted most.

I thought I'd seen that plans to extend it to 16 teams were planned - which is even more pointless!

From what I've seen, the players (and maybe coach) will say "we were well prepared and weren't complacent. We believe in this group of players and that they were the best squad we could put together."

I am just reminiscing here, but I am an FOC so that’s allowed. As a kid I used to love one day cricket in England. You had the John Player Sunday league where every team played every other team over the season, 40 overs a side. Then you had the 2 knock out trophies, the B&H cup (55 overs) and the Gillette/Nat west trophy (60 overs) proper knock out trophies with atmosphere, 30k crowds in quarters and semis at Lancs. No what is there? Nothing that captures my imagination, certainly not the multi coloured soulless 100
