got to feel for these cricketers umpires make sure the poor loves have their dinner before starting play
i kown raining but where else would you make sure had dinner and ignore paying fans

if it;s dry enough and safe get on with it

They’ve said it will take around 1 hour 30mins to dry it all out! Wow that’s seems long

Umpire’s inspection imminent. Reckon they could be out in the next 30-45 minutes unless the weather turns again.

Judging by the met radar they might get an hour to an hour and a half, then possibly another spell after tea. Evening looks slightly better.

Edit: covers back on. It’s not torrential just annoyingly “bitty”. Keeps passing over in short bursts.

Any playing time today would be golden.

Those few overs at Edgbaston where it was wet and dark and borderline unplayable were great for the Aussies bowling at the time. Hopefully we get a mini session similar.

Can't see there being much play today now, more heavy rain inbound from the SW according to the weather radar.View attachment 85807

Yeah there’s just not a consistent enough band of dryness. It’s so patchy, makes it pretty much impossible to predict.

Just let's say we do get, say, a session after tea. Are these conditions — atmosphere, sky, outfield — in any way advantageous to us as the bowling side? Are they conducive to the ball doing unpredictable stuff?

Yes, usually favours the bowlers because of the moisture in the air aiding swing but also cloud cover usually means worse visibility for the batsmen.

Yep, I’m shitting it.

I would feel a lot better if I had faith in our very talented batsmen were ready to show their talent.

We should be able to knock out 350-400 on this pitch on Day 3-4 but we’d need to respect the opposition and situation, of which I’m not confident.
What makes you 350/ 400 should be achievable when the highest score so far is 263 ?

Teams have been putting up massive 4th innings scores all season at Headingley. The consensus is that it’s a pitch that gets easier to bat on, and the outfield is so fast that as soon as someone is in they can score at will.
