Love cricket, especially test cricket and love Jimmy but this ‘retirement test’ thing is an absolute joke, especially as he doesn’t want to finish yet.

If they don’t want to pick him anymore, think he should retire from test cricket and want to go in a different direction, especially with the Ashes in mind, that’s entirely their prerogative and fair play to them, but this is professional sport not some Sunday afternoon benevolent society.

Not only that, what happens if he takes 5-50 and 4-25, does he suddenly get picked for the second test or does he stay retired?
He’ll be staying retired but agree with you it’s daft.

Got the womens' ODI on at the moment (no football, see?). Don't usually watch the womens' game, to be honest. I have to say, it's pretty pedestrian in comparison to the mens' game. And some of the fielding is, let's be kind, average. Also, the atmosphere seems nearly non existent.
It's a lot better than it used to be.

The idiots tried to change his action but a bowler must be left to adjust and refine it himself, which Jimmy did successfully.
The coach's in the infinite wisdom thought that they could improve his action, it happens all the time. They watched him and couldn't understand that when he delivered the ball his head would turn to the side and not look straight down the wicket and in trying to change him they totally fucked up his natural action. Jimmy finally went back to how he'd always bowled and the rest is history.

Not all International sides bat as poorly as this West Indian side.
I wasn’t being entirely serious, but it’s something he could have said as a bit of banter.

Still, if he takes all 20 wickets in each test he plays, he’ll only need about 37 tests to get there.

Hoping we bat at 8 runs an over now, to put some jeopardy into this game...

Well played Atkinson.

The simple answer is Jimmy Anderson is not good enough to keep his place in the test team
Not sure, he had a poor Ashes where bizarrely he wasn’t getting the ball to swing. He still barely goes for any runs. Due to age you’re only ever one bad series away from people saying you’re past it. I think it should be still picked on merit.

We’re certainly not in a Ronaldo situation where he’s shite and significantly weakening the team. His spell for Lancs last week showed he’s still got plenty of quality left in him.

But we are in the Ronaldo situation, He's not going to get 20-odd test wickets in the season anymore is he.
He's finished at international because England would be carrying him when there is somebody better.

2 years too long for me, Really should have gone with Broad in the ashes

Which English bowlers are better than Anderson currently?

Bat for the rest of today and (hopefully) up to near tea tomorrow; they should be nearly 300 ahead by then. Declare, and put the Windies back in. I can’t see them getting 300,judging from their first innings. Would love to see Jimmy getting a couple of wickets in his final innings.
