I think England are going to bat as long as they can in the good weather.

So lets go all in on back of the envelope maths. 77 overs left today.

I'd want to bowl at Australia for about 40. That gives England 35 overs to rack up a score which at the current RR would be a lead of about 350.

Australia's longest innings of the series is 116 overs. Realistically they won't bat for more than 100.

So that would leave England needing maximum 60 overs of good weather across the weekend - 2 sessions out of 6.

Optimistically you might only need 1 clear session.

So IMO the move is bat until tea and spend the last 7 sessions of the match trying to get 10 wickets.

All about managing the clock now. Every run we get that we end up not needing is a waste of time. We need to find the balance between getting a score we think Australia might match without going too far over.

It really is something to see Australia running scared. So many times over the years I've seen the England team with that deer-in-the-headlights look when the great Australian teams were in full cry.
It is nearly as satisfying — although not quite — as seeing United at Wembley, basically frightened of what we could do to them.

I think Crawley intimidated that England only want to bat once. I think they'll speed up after lunch and declare in the afternoon. Sat/Sun is looking bleak but if we can get a decent bowling session with humidity, it's doable

If the forecast is accurate, we may not get much more than two sessions over the weekend. Declare halfway between lunch and tea today. A lead of possibly 250-300, with a possible 3 and a bit sessions.
