I don’t recognise that South Africa are the best test team in the world!

Well of course not. Not really. Do you think the team that wins the Champions League is really the best team in Europe? Always?

But this time I'll take it, because I'm so sick of the fucking Aussies. They don't give a bloody inch, even when they're beaten! This should have been over much earlier this morning. They are cussed bastards. They're like Ferguson's United at its height. They'd win matches they had no business winning. By hook… sometimes by crook.
But you've got to give the Aussies some respect, however grudging. Sine the nineties, they have been, overall, the best team in the world.

England play too many tests and against the better countries, as it brings in more money.

England played 22 tests in the group, SA only 12, NZ 14, Australia and India 19.

Next up 5 tests at home v India, then 5 away in Australia. They won't finish in the top 2 in 2027 either, as money is favoured over winning it.

All three Southern Hemisphere teams will have won it before lunch, not one Northern team.

It is what it is. I'd rather play 5 test series against the best nations and enjoy the quality cricket than have a load of 2 test series against dross so we can win some nonsense trophy that doesn't have any historical significance. The Ashes will always be the pinnacle for the English Test team.

It isn't about playing the best nations it is about making more money.

England v South African got Icon Status as a series in 2008, which meant the ICC would allow then to play 5 test series instead of 4 which they were doing at the time after playing 5 historically.

The next series in England was reduced to 3 tests, even though it was the top 2 in the world, and SA took then number one slot with a 2-0 win.

England, Australia and India are the only nations which make money playing tests, so no wonder they play each other 5 times. The TWC is far bigger than any individual series, just like the FIFA World Cup was bigger than the more historic Home Nations Championship.

What; the World Cup bigger than Wales vs Northern Ireland at Windsor Park?

Well, lovely day at Southport for the Second XI. Unfortunately the batting continues to be anything but.
98-4 at lunch.

Used to love going there in the 80s & 90s to see Lancs when they used it as an outground. Always seemed to be a hot, sunny day there. One year, there was some kind of air show going on and we were treated to first-class cricket and fighter jet displays all day.

Yep, cracking the flags today too. No airshow but plenty of aircraft overhead. Pretty sure there’s an aerodrome close by.

Neds v Nepal 171 ball game of T20, level after Super Over 1 then Super Over 2 with 19 and 17 then Nepal get 0-2 off 4 (2 is all out in SO) and Neds a 6.

No count back or wickets taken into account.

Just to finish the tale on this, closed day one at 96 overs with 312-6 with George Bell 172 not out. Compared to where things were at lunch that’s a decent couple of sessions. Rocky Flintoff surprisingly came in at 3, but sadly didn’t hang around too long. Balderson also playing, as captain I think.

It’s a toss. I’d have liked to have lost. We have to hope it does something, but the weather has never been this dry this summer and temperatures this high! Feeling it will be so hard to bat last because it will break up quite a bit with this heat.

I don’t get this winning the toss and putting the oppos in. How often does that come off in a test?
Stat freak required.
Close of play forecast: India 295/4. (Famous last words.)

I see Sri Lanka and Bangla are fighting out an exciting game, nearly 1,000 runs scored in the first innings and its only day4. That’ll bring the hoards rushing in.

Stokes going of history of the ground but the weather hasn’t been this dry so early in the year for a long time! 50/50 on if it’s a good decision!

I recon our thinking is our batting is a hell of a lot better than our bowling. I can’t see us bowling India out twice to win the game with that attack, but I can see us knocking 400 off to win on a good wicket - unless it crumbles
