Congratulations Australia. The better side in this Test, well in this session, but only just. An excellent Test and highly enjoyable. Nice that Jim Maxwell had the mic to commentate on the conclusion.

Can't help think that England shot themselves in both feet with their selection. Bairstow's mistakes behind the stumps were too many and too costly, which was highly predictable. Similarly, Ali's recall after so long out was a poor inclusion, particularly when they must have known that Stokes is incapable of pulling his bowling weight. Those bowling choices put too much pressure on Broad, Anderson, and Robinson, who will suffer later in the series if that continues, so picking the same eleven for Lord's is surely not an option.

The missed catches by Bairstow, the lack of any other English player than Root pushing on and getting a big score. The loss of Leach, the lack of potency of Anderson Many reasons for this loss.

Must be question marks about Jimmy for Lords. Stokes obviously can’t bowl and we’ve not had a spinner effectively for most of this match. If Wood is fit he returns.

We will mate. I liked the declaration. No 5fer for Lyon. Root not out. Little mental battles...you couldn't bowl us out lads.

As much as we couldn't get the wicket we needed that evening, the Aussies had the luck generally. The weather we got for that 20minute spell was horrific. The weather they got today didn't impact things.

Fine margins. A long time away for Bairstow and it showed. Moeen's injury another blow.

But we go again and will be encouraged.

I'm positive because England can play a lot smarter in the next test if Cummins is as defensive. There were 1s and 2s all over the place and we were silly to chase boundaries at times when we could have accumulated quickly still.

It's going to be a classic. As I said to another poster I'm gutted the next one is at Lords...need hostility not champagne! Woakes and Wood have to come in, drop the spinner and rest Jimmy. Root did enough today.
