Monty and Anderson in the first ashes test in Cardiff in 2009 a good example. Every ball was like the Inter 95 minute corner.

I feel like we don’t get those endings so much any more - everyone is too good at batting. Even number 11s are pretty comfortable at the crease, you don’t get bunnies like Monty who looked relieved every time he got out.

Lancs members being asked to vote for which changes to the CC they prefer. Also Vitality Blast proposals to vote on.

County Championship proposals:

Members are asked to rank three options from 1 (most preferred) to 3 (least preferred). Any vote not ranking all three options won’t be counted. All options reduce pinch points and bunching to help player welfare.

Lancashire Cricket initially lobbied the ECB at meetings to maintain the 14 matches, via having two rounds of the County Championship to be played alongside The Hundred. However, sadly this is not something that is supported by the majority of counties. As such, our primary objective through this process from this point has been to find a more suitable schedule for the players and staff to drive high performance and ultimately create more attractive competition to watch, cementing the County Championship as the best red ball competition in the world.

The Board, Executive Team and playing staff preference is to vote for OPTION A to the proposal, as this would provide a re-fresh and investment into the County Championship, with a £1 million prize money pot available – the biggest for any red-ball domestic tournament in the world. It would also provide a five-day showpiece final, which works well in both the Sheffield Shield (Australia) and Ranji Trophy (India). We hope you consider this option, but Members should review the proposal and vote however they would want to.
Interesting read, I understand them wanting to have a showpiece final, problem is that if it takes place in September every year how often is it going to get rained off?

The hundred really is fucking everything up isn't it

Think we need to remember that getting 200 in the 4th innings isn’t that common in the history of test cricket.

It’s got more common recently, but it doesn’t make it easy.

Doesn't explain how the play-offs work. When A was suggested over a year ago I thought you get relegated and may never come back even if you are the best team.

Also unless you finish top 4 in the country you may be relegated, and in the old days when it was 2 x 9 and 3 up 3 down it was thought to be too much, now it is that on steroids. Now B is suggested making it so 12 in Division 1 and 6 in Div 2, and very isometric and who wins and how? In 2020 it was 3 groups of six and 2 played in a final, all div 1 if compared to b.

Stick with C, just lose 2 more games.

Before I read the accompanying text, my preference was for option A.

Is it 11am first ball at Lords or 11:30 this morning does anyone know? I’ve been recording it and watching first thing everyday but as it’s only going to be a few hours I’ll watch the last day live you see.

11am. Days always start at 11am in test matches in England unless it's a day/night test or the weather intervenes

If England can get rid of Pant and/or Rahul before the Indians reach 100 we have a great chance.

Washington and Jadeja can both bat but pressure can do strange things to players and make no mistake if India finds themselves 5 or 6 down with less than 100 on the board all the pressure will be on them.

Thought Stokes and especially Carse bowled brilliantly last night with tight line and lengths and the pitch is still doing something with uneven bounce

Yep, sadly.

Lancs also stated that prior to the third Members Forum on Saturday:

"The Club held two Members’ Forums on the domestic playing programme, which concluded the following:

  • A recognition that pinch points in the schedule are the major issue, particularly with bunching back-to-back County Championship matches and with late night, long travel and back-to-back Vitality Blast matches.
  • A recognition that to retain 14 County Championship matches would need two matches played during The Hundred.
  • A desire to grow audiences for both Vitality Blast and County Championship and recognising that the schedule - particularly with fixture bunching - has meant that we are nowhere near capacity for all matches, excluding the Roses T20 match.
It is worth noting that following the overall engagement process, we understand there to be only five counties that favour retaining the status quo and not taking the opportunity to refresh and invest in our competitions".

Lancs have been apologetic regarding the limited time to consider all this...members receiving instructions to vote this weekend and needing to do so by this Wednesday...but making it clear that they are bound by the ECB's timescales and the ECB only communicated all this late last week. Lancs also say they are one of only a few counties who are even offering members the opportunity to vote on the proposals.

For completeness, the Blast proposal is below:

Vitality Blast proposal:

One option that currently has overall support from the Counties to refresh the Blast, which is as follows: Change from current format to:

  • Three groups of six teams.
    • Lancashire, Yorkshire and Durham always grouped together (another example of three teams that would be grouped are Surrey, Middlesex and Essex) to retain local derbies.
    • The other three teams in each group rotate yearly.
  • 12 matches per team (six home).
    • Five home and away games in the group.
    • Plus, one home and away match against a team from another group.
  • Matches spaced out into six weekend blocks (Wed-Sun), making it easier for fans to attend and improving player recovery.
The Board, Executive Team and playing staff preference is to vote YES to this proposal.

Bowled a lot better in the 2nd innings which is good to see. The batting for both sides is fairly similar now India have addressed their lower order capitulations. But their bowling attack has been so much better than ours. I felt we needed another 50 runs to counter the fact that our bowling would probably gift them about that in comparison.

Things have got a bit of bite to them now though, and we'll be all over them. Hopefully we take an early wicket as the atmosphere will build and build from there.

The skipper has been our best bowler. Apparently the coach sent a message on to the field to tell him to take a break in the light of his injuries. It is no coincidence that Ben took a wicket with the last ball of the day. A very determined individual. Should be a contest today.

Woakes has finally found a better rhythm as well. Tough c&b chance, but probably should have taken that yesterday. He's been all over the place this series but look to have finally got his consistency with his line and length and at Lord's he's usually very effective so possibly holds the key today.

Stokes brings that aggression and magic, which we're going to need today. India were dishing it out big time in the field, we need to give them some back and really get after them. Only takes a few loose balls and big swings to chase this so they're still favourites. An early wicket, ideally two and it swings back our way.

Another excellent test match, albeit the question marks over the side still remain and that's never good ahead of an ashes tour down under.

Carse too showed improvement, admittedly from a lowish base! Let battle begin.(Alarums and diversions. Trumpets sound.)

Hopefully Archer's radar isn't too far off this morning compared to yesterday. We can't afford for any of our bowlers to give them too many freebies.

I think our Ashes prospects hinge on the likes of Wood and Archer being fit and on form for the majority of the series.

Think India at this point are 65% favourites we have to be on it front the off and if we get these two out early I’d still won’t count India out they can bat
