I would have picked him like England have because of his history at lords! And looking at him with the bowl and bat this series for me he is done 35 shit away and usually decent at home!

A reprieve would be if he bowls India out tomorrow morning

Yeah, me to at lords

But he just looks old and slow, and the swing has gone

The question is, can England Bowl well enough to win ? Make them make the mistakes by bowling good lines and make them play, The wicket offers you a chance with its uneven bounce, so its all about getting it right and no gifts

True, but absolutely miserly fielding is going to be just as important. Every run conceded will have to burn the English fielders. There really isn't a lot to play around with.

Well now, this is interesting. England have got a sniff, but I still think it's in India's hands. Rahul still there, Pant to come in. They could steer them home. The morning session is key.
Anyway, as usual, and at the risk of boringly repeating myself — there is nothing, but absolutely nothing, as absorbing as a test match that goes to the fifth day with both sides not giving an inch, and the result still in the balance.
(And incidentally, I'd maintain that view over any other sport, speaking purely for myself. Yes, even footie. The complexities of a sport that has matches played over five days — weather, pitch, players, and other variables — are byzantine. I've tried explaining that fascination to Americans and the French. Can't be done. They just don't get it).
The other thing that people who don’t get cricket can’t ever get their heads round is how much joy you can derive from a draw if your team is batting last. Watching two cart horses block the ball for twenty seven minutes with the square root of fuck all runs bring scored other than extras is, for me, about as good as it gets, in terms of enjoyment from spectator sport.

Other than City winning obviously!

The notion of a draw in any sporting form being satisfying is one that leaves Americans, in particular, nonplussed, I find.

Will be interesting to see how Pant plays it tomorrow...would have thought he'll be under orders to be less flamboyant than usual but on the other hand if he plays his natural game and it comes off, the game could be over very quickly. I expect Pant will be in next but did wonder whether they may tinker with the order.

Jimmy and Monty in Cardiff. Just wonderful. 11 overs of sheer tension.
I remember as a small boy watching Bailey and Watson defy the Aussies in 1953. I watched through the window of a Radio Rentals shop. I only vaguely understood what was going on. I hasten to add I didn’t watch the whole 5 hours or wherever it was but it got me hooked on cricket.

I heard one of the TMS commentators say years ago that he’d been talking with an American about cricket.

"I suppose you can’t understand how, after five days play, we can end up with a draw?"

The American replied, "I can’t understand how, after a whole summer of play, you can end up with a draw!"

I would say 20 to 40 runs can be saved by good fielding, plus it adds pressure to the Indians' batsmen when the runs are not flowing. Just make them play and make every ball count, no freebies.

I will say one thing, it's been a great test match, and the added spice has got the crowd involved

Monty and Anderson in the first ashes test in Cardiff in 2009 a good example. Every ball was like the Inter 95 minute corner.

If only we had an extra 50 - 75 runs to defend. My gut instinct is that the Indians will get the job done tomorrow. Maybe lose another couple of wickets along the way, to give us false hope.

It's closer than I first thought. When we were bowled out for 192, I would have said it's not enough, but at 58-4 maybe I can live and hope a little longer, No freebies and keep it tight, you never know

Lancs members being asked to vote for which changes to the CC they prefer. Also Vitality Blast proposals to vote on.

County Championship proposals:

Members are asked to rank three options from 1 (most preferred) to 3 (least preferred). Any vote not ranking all three options won’t be counted. All options reduce pinch points and bunching to help player welfare.

Lancashire Cricket initially lobbied the ECB at meetings to maintain the 14 matches, via having two rounds of the County Championship to be played alongside The Hundred. However, sadly this is not something that is supported by the majority of counties. As such, our primary objective through this process from this point has been to find a more suitable schedule for the players and staff to drive high performance and ultimately create more attractive competition to watch, cementing the County Championship as the best red ball competition in the world.

The Board, Executive Team and playing staff preference is to vote for OPTION A to the proposal, as this would provide a re-fresh and investment into the County Championship, with a £1 million prize money pot available – the biggest for any red-ball domestic tournament in the world. It would also provide a five-day showpiece final, which works well in both the Sheffield Shield (Australia) and Ranji Trophy (India). We hope you consider this option, but Members should review the proposal and vote however they would want to.
