I need to write to Lancashire so they can explain to me why there isn't another Test Match at Old Trafford until 2028.
Pitch is a road. Starts flat and turns into the M1 by day 5.
You’ve got to bat very badly to lose a game at Old Trafford.
It doesn’t produce great matches. We need to sort it out to get the big tests again.

Doesn't sound good. A tournament that goes on too long and presumably ticket prices will go up dramatically (they've already risen quite a bit since it first started) because of investor pressure.

Only positive is that the more money involved might draw in some better players in the mens game. It's not exactly a premium tournament at the moment with the current players imo.
That's what they are aiming for I guess, a tournament in England properly funded would only be second to the IPL. The BBC reported that the Manchester team will possibly be called the Manchester Super Giants next season after the Lucknow Super Giants owners who invested in the Manchester franchise applied for a name change. It's just the start of it tbh.

I generally agree that we've been shafted, with NZ going to London twice and Nottingham, and Pakistan off to Leeds, London and Birmingham in 2026.

Meanwhile the ashes in 2027 is Birmingham, London (twice), Nottingham and Southampton

What is will say is that I went to Old Trafford last year for the SL test and the attendance was shit. Don't think they helped their case. But I do think manchester should have one of next year's, that seems harsh. With all the noise OT makes about "diversification of income" etc, maybe they made themselves easy targets to just award odi and t20s
It’s worse than just not having a Test in 2026. By my reading of it, we don’t have an ODI either. I would go to either of those, but will not go to a T20. It’s two fingers to the North West of England, and no doubt about it.

Makes a mockery of Lancs offering a me a membership renewal deal including “a days play” for England instead of 5 days of Lancs play.

I would kind of accept it if that reason, or reasons alluding to that were given as to why, but I doubt it will be forthcoming as such.

Seemed a better cricket wicket in the Glamorgan game. Looked to me like they'd left some grass on the middle of the pitch for the seamers but had taken the grass off on what would be a good length for the spin bowlers. Will have to see if they carry on preparing pitches like that from now on.

Who will start the first Ashes Test in Perth?

England do not play another Test before their Ashes opener on 21 November.

We asked the Test Match Special team who they would pick for that first match down under...
BBC chief cricket commentator Jonathan Agnew: Crawley, Duckett, Pope, Root, Brook, Stokes, Smith, Atkinson, Carse, Archer, Wood.

Former England captain Michael Vaughan: Crawley, Duckett, Pope, Root, Brook, Stokes, Smith, Atkinson, Archer, Wood, Carse/Tongue.

Ex-England batter Ebony Rainford-Brent: Crawley, Duckett, Pope, Root, Brook, Stokes, Smith, Atkinson, Archer, Wood, Bashir.

Former England captain Sir Alastair Cook: Crawley, Duckett, Pope, Root, Brook, Stokes, Smith, Wood, Archer, Carse, Atkinson.

Ex-England spinner Phil Tufnell: Crawley, Duckett, Pope, Root, Brook, Stokes, Smith, Atkinson, Archer, Wood, Carse/Tongue.

BBC chief cricket reporter Stephan Shemilt: Crawley, Duckett, Pope, Root, Brook, Stokes, Smith, Atkinson, Archer, Wood, Bashir.

I don't think the Aussies will win 5.0, but England need to keep the fast bowlers Archer Wood Atkinson fully fit and play at least 3 to 4 tests in a row, Also Smith the wicket keeper is a major doubt for me, Maybe England could recall one of the old guard Foakes or Bairstow, Plus Pope could take the gloves and we bring in somebody else at 3

Totally agree. Yeah, two 20/20 matches for Old Trafford next summer and one of those is a Saturday in September so could well clash with the football. 20/20 isn't my cup of tea either. The powers that be in cricket - amongst plenty of other things - are just too London-centric. It also reminds me that London only got serious about bidding for the Olympics after Manchester showed how to do it with the Commonweslth Games!

Absolutely pal, and I’m no weather guru, but Manchester in September?!

Those two T20s just smack of scraps and consolations. I won’t be going to either.

What a series. A proper feisty fight from start to finish full of tension. Compelling throughout the series. Loved the needle.
So happy that India won today. Easily the best series for decades

Yeah one of the better ones.

And now for a certain controversial point of view:

I don't think Cricket needs 3 formats.. should just be T20 and Tests.

Agreed.

The one day game came about presumably as a way of making Cricket more accessible.

But a one day game is still rather long an unaccessible for the masses. I used to watch a lot of one day growing up and it really was a whole day event. I'm pretty sure we'd be on the road around 10am for an 11am start and then back home around 7-8pm.

T20 is truly accessible because it can be played in an evening and that's the key to it's success imo.

Not controversial but I disagree.

Call me old fashioned and misty eyed over Lancy's 70s exploits in the 60 over Gillette Cup, I think there is still merit in the longer, though 50 over game. There is too much talking down of Tests and 50 over cricket in my view. All three have their merits and have a rich history now. I like it that we have three good formats and we should be talking them all up rather than down in my view.

What I would dispense with is the infernal "The Hundred" gimmick. It alienates people, hardly anyone really cares about it and worse still, it compresses the Test series, leading to more injuries. We've just had a great test series inspite of it.

The trouble from the traditional fans’ pov is that the Hundred makes a profit, so the counties luv it.
I prefer in order: tests, t20, 50 over format. Full stop.

I loved the Gilette. David Hughes in the moonlight, that catch by Jack Bond to turn a final round, great striking from Farouk Engineer…….

Pope should not be near the team god only knows how he is vice captain.

Stokes rates him.
He is a startled rabbit who can only bat 1st innings.
1st innings ave 44
2nd innings ave 32
3rd innings ave 24
4th innings ave 16
Not good enough for a no 3.
Duckett
Crawley
Bethell
Root
Brook
Stokes
Smith
Atkinson
Wood
Archer
Bashir
If that attack can stay fit down under and play 3 matches together we may have a sniff.
Rotate in the other 2 games.
Adelaide,Sydney and Melbourne are best chances to win no chance in Perth and Brisbane although Perth is not the same since they moved from the Waca still a bouncy quick wicket though just not as quick.

Rew from Somerset might be a good bet as wkt/batsman.
