Cricket Thread

I tell you what you Aussies. You can have the ashes. If that’s how you want to win then crack on. That was just embarrassing. Yes bairstow was a bit naive but to celebrate like that and then cry about getting abuse for it just shows what a scummy self important bunch that team are. They have tried every trick in the book and cheated at every opportunity. They cheat for absolutely everything. I love the Aussie people as a nation but their cricket team have always been the lowest of the low. Warner, smith, etc etc you are a disgrace to your nation. And cry babies to boot. I’d rather be us and loose than you. Well done on winning. A magnificent abatement effort

I dont get all this moaning about the Aussies.
I watch football and see footballers faking injuries, diving, time wasting, trying to get opponents sent off etc. No big fuss from the press/media about that.

From what I saw the batsman was a knobhead for just walking out of his cross.
It’s not football though is it? We all know footballers are cheating, diving pricks. Cricket is meant to be a bit different. Like rugby. Looks like it’s just the egg chasers left with any dignity left

I think the issue here is that cricket still has a level of sportsmanship that football lacks, hence the furore.

For me, while it was a bit lazy from Bairstow what they haven’t factored in is the umpire seemed to be in the process of handing the bowler his cap back when that incident happened so IMO that was enough to signal the end of the over.

IIRC there was a similar incident at an England v India test match back around 2010 or 2011. On that occasion, I think Ian Bell was either stumped or run out (when backing up) on the stroke of lunch. During the lunch break, there was a discussion between the two teams and the appeal was withdrawn.

Should try playing cricket around here lol even in the 20 over evening thrash !

If you forget about bloodgate :-)

The Bairstow dismissal leaves a real sour taste in the mouth for me.

On the scorecard he has been given out stumped, which is a fucking nonsense. The ball was in the keepers gloves, Bairstow was in his ground and the ball at that time by the laws of the game was dead. It was last ball of the over and the Umpire should have called OVER, the Umpire did not apparently which is piss poor as that also indicates the ball is dead. Bairstow left his ground assuming the ball was dead and was then run out, it was not a stumping.

Technically yes, Bairstow was out, but then technically any batsman who leaves his ground at any time can be given out whether the ball is dead or not. Go for a drinks break and you can knock the stumps over and its out.

Cricket has like many sports has unwritten ettiquette, the Aussies as is there want trashed that today and the whole game is poorer for i

Correct. We don't expect anything else from professional footballers. But you like to think there's still a bit of ethics and manners in cricket. But looking at today, coupled with recent revelations about Yorkshire, and the game in general, perhaps not. As for rugby being the only dignified sport left; what was that fake blood injury thing a few years back?

I can’t stand footballers. Biggest bunch of unsporting cunts going.

I even shout at City players and tell them to get the fuck up or shut the fuck up and get on with the game when they start all that feigning injury shit or if they’re arguing with the ref when they’re clearly wrong. There’s always people around me giving me the ‘how dare you berate your own team’s players’ looks, but deep down they know that all these cunts ruin the sport with their shite.

I think the ‘win at all costs’, every inch, every trick in the book thing in sport shows a really weak mentality that emphasises that a player or team isn’t that good and can’t win without the gamesmanship. I don’t understand why coaches and captains don’t drum that into their teams or why fans and pundits don’t make more of it.

If someone has to resort to that to beat me, I’ve already won.

Every test match is big in the Ashes, But in the first test you must not lose and the Aussies knew how big a win that was, England playing Bazball cricket facing the best team at test cricket is crazy with the odds against winning or getting something out of the test, Yes it's great to watch when winning, but not when your losing,

The Ashes are bigger than that in my book, You have to respect what it means to the fans of England, You are gambling on getting a score on the board so you can get you in the game and put the pressure on them,

Also, the ageing England bowling attack is showing why a score on the board is needed first, 450 is the magic number in test cricket, That's why we lost the first test, Them 50-odd runs were the difference and sort of sent out a bad message that we don't respect your batters,

Wood and Woakes have to start in the next test, even the spinner Rehan Ahmed must play, Even If that means Anderson and Robinson or Broad missing out then so be it, Stopping the Whitewash is the aim now
Agree with you.
The Bairstow dismissal gives a focal point to moan about the aussies, but the way England threw away wickets in the first innings when they had the aussies a bowler down & desperate, is where this game was lost Both in terms of giving them a very decent first innings lead & also not giving our own bowlers any significant rest between innings.
