Will India make 100 in their second innings?
Hard to look past the draw, unless one of the sides has a nightmare second innings. That being said, day 5 could be a test for (presumably) England, with Headingley's reputation for taking spin at the end of a test.Dark clouds and a heavy shower where I am. Headingley usually follows an hour later.
Stokes the slowest batter of the England innings, Root second slowest. At lunch, England were 327/5 after 77 overs. So, by my iffy maths, we've scored 126, off 18 overs, for the loss of 3 wickets. That's 7 runs per over, from the middle and lower order batsmen. Trailing India by 18 runs. That's none too shabby. When India were 430/3, I couldn't see us not losing. India are a bloody good side, even with some of their best players not in the side. This has been a good fightback by England.
I've learnt not to speak over enthusiastically about England performances on here XDTake it? I'll do more than take it.
Two points when I was frankly shivering: when the Indian batsmen knocked off those three centuries, I thought, “This is a cool 650, no sweat”. That we firstly got them out for not far short of two hundred less than that is something like a miracle.
Then when Crawley went really quickly, second shivering spell. I thought, “Oh shit, here we go. All out for about 120, follow on enforced, maybe”.
This has been a magnificent rearguard action, twice over, the more so in that some of the really senior players like Stokes and Root haven't really stepped up.
Match on!
Edit: I'm talking about Stokes at the crease, of course.
Looking unlikely. These two look fairly well set now.If we could prise out another couple of wickets this evening, it will be an excellent day's work by England.
Same as the march day thread then!Spot on. I can’t believe some of the stuff I'm reading on here.
