Live by the sword, die by the sword. Bazball is a exciting, high risk brand of cricket but when it goes wrong, it goes horribly wrong. Root bowling at the death on day 2 is the cricket equivalent of waving the white flag.
England's Test record Down Under is simply embarrassing.

Does England still produce any solid batsmen with good defensive technique who plays each ball on its merits ?

No, we abandoned that approach years ago. The County game is dominated by mediocrity and indifference. Limited over cricket requires very little technique and half of this test side are distracted by franchise cricket but with the money on offer who can blame them. You’d think the Aussies would have the same problem but they seem to have batsmen with significantly better technique than England. In that second innings England played like it was a T20 match.

Yep head played well because we didn’t bowl consistently in the right place! For me we should full and wide have field for that so slips a 3rd man and a mid-of and cover! Don’t let him hit the ball on the on side! We bowled wide, short to full both side of pitch! It’s was piss poor bowling! For once the Stokes captaincy!

Crawley is abject. May as well try someone else opening, his inevitable duck or low score sets the tone of panic for the rest who then bat like it’s a limited overs game and fuck it up trying to sweep and slog. Test cricket is about patience when batting!

I would imagine so.

Call me a traditionalist, but I prefer the longer forms of the game, like ODIs where you at least get 50 overs per innings.
